Trump's trial ended before it even began?

The post-impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is set to begin on February 9 in the US Senate. But earlier in the day, Republican Senator Rand Paul, who was elected from Kentucky, dropped out of court on Tuesday. Objecting to the constitutional sources, he said that the administration does not want to try the former president, so the trial that the majority Democrats are organizing is undemocratic. I want a vote now on the question of annulment of this trial.

Democrats objected to the vote. Nevertheless, when the vote was passed, a total of 45 Republicans opposed the trial. Only 50 Republicans, along with 50 Democrats in the Senate, voted in favor of the trial. As a result, the trial will continue as usual, but it is clear from the outcome of the vote. As a rule, Trump will be acquitted if he does not get the support of two-thirds of the Senate or a total of six senators. Clearly, there is no reason to think that 16 Republicans will be Democrats in this trial.

At the end of the vote, cheerful Republican Senator Rand Paul said, "Why would anyone who thinks this trial is undemocratic vote for the former president to be convicted?"

Notably, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell voted against the trial. Earlier, he accused Trump of instigating the attack on Congress. There were also indications that he was interested in convicting Trump at trial, although he did not say exactly how he would vote. Many thought McConnell was interested in cutting Trump off the team. Some were surprised that he voted against the trial in Tuesday's systemic vote. However, it would not be a surprise if he changed his mind on the basis of evidence after questioning in the trial.

Most neutral observers, however, believe that the 16 Republican senators who voted against Trump will not match. Trump's influence in this party and at the grassroots level is still huge. It doesn't look like there will be more than 5-6 Republican senators to take their political risks by convicting him. Admitting that, Republican commentator Max Butt, known as the anti-Trump, said that Trump is not the only one on the bench, the whole Republican party. For the past four years, these leaders have confessed to all of Trump's crimes, he wrote in the Washington Post. Once again, it is almost inevitable. But in the future, when there will be another uprising like January 7, they will not be able to avoid the accusation of helping.
