I can't find any reference to the AA conference on the web. Could there be confusion with another event such as the tennis competition.

Neither could we but every hotel we've contacted both ourselves and through a local channel have told us they're reserved for the thing. We can't figure out where the hell this thing is being held if it's so big but for whatever reason the city is booked for it. The tennis thing isn't happening in Acapulco, it's happening in Diamante. My friend just made a joke that "the whole city is going to attempt to stop drinking for it lol"
