You give a man an inch, he'll take a yard. We entered into a social compact, to enable some form of organization and government to keep men from killing each other, and dying from the elements, in the state of nature. But it wasn't a blank check, and the system has become too technocratic and bloated to maintain any system of checks and balances. That was supposed to be our three branches of government in the US as the federal level, and yet, we are seeing unprecedented examples of the aggrandizement of the executive branch in recent years.
