Needle dragonflies are insects that belong to the Odonata order

Needle dragonflies have unique characteristics that make them easily distinguishable from other types of dragonflies, namely the slim body shape like a needle and the position of the wing upright at rest. Needle dragonflies are often found around ponds, swamps, forests, and rice fields.
They choose to live in a source of water that is still clean and has not been polluted to lay their eggs to ensure a level of life. That is why the presence of needle dragonflies can be used as an indication, whether the waters are still clean or polluted.

An adult needle dragonfly will hunt its prey in the air, this is done mainly on small insects. That is why, the existence of the dragonfly needle can also be a control of the mosquito population.

Dragonflies have a relatively short life cycle, which is around 6 months to a maximum of six or seven years starting from eggs to adulthood. These insects can not live far from water, because they have a habit when laying eggs will put it around stagnant aquatic plants, although there are some species that put it in water that is rather swift.

After the eggs of the dragonfly hatch, the tempaya or dragonfly larvae will live and develop at the bottom of the water, undergo metamorphosis and become nymphs until they come out of the water to become adult dragonflies.

Adult dragonflies that we often find actually only able to live for 4 months. Most dragonfly's life span is spent in the form of nymphs with an internal gill breathing system below the surface of the water. Tempayak and dragonfly nymphs are vicious animals, and can even hunt and prey on tadpoles and small fish. When mature, dragonflies are able to hunt mosquitoes, flies and other insects.
