His coat is black, his silhouette is stocky and muscular. It is not always easy to differentiate it from its 3 lowland cousins (the lowland gorilla, the western lowland gorilla (whose coat is gray-brown with a reddish crest) and the cross-river gorilla).
You must carefully observe the length of his coat, because it is shorter than that of his cousins. His teeth are also smaller and his arms are shorter.
A little history
In the movie King-Kong, the mountain gorilla appears as an aggressive and brutal animal.
And yet mountain gorillas are peaceful animals. The mountain gorilla is a subspecies of eastern gorilla.
He has black fur. The male leader of the group is called silver back because the fur of his back is gray.
