I began raising chickens about 3 years ago when I was 13 years old and I want to share my experience with you guys.
I got my first three chickens off of Craigslist. (Side note: if the person you are buying chickens from says " we didn't handle them, we just threw them in the coop and fed them... probably a no go.) I kept these chickens for roughly a year, when they started to not lay very many eggs and I realised that these chickens were demonic.
I now raise a breed of chicken called a silkie. Silkie have unique feathers that resemble more of a fur like feather. The plan is that later this year, or early next year I will breed my own batch of birds in which I can sell chicks for $20 and I can del adults for upwards of $50 EACH.
