The feeding mechanism that involves an animal releasing metabolic waste and turns around to eat the same poop is called coprophagia.
-Exmples of sarcophagic animals
-lagomorphs- rabbits, hares and pikas
-rodents- mice, rats, hamster, naked mole rats, chinchillas and guinea pigs
primates- including gorillas, orangutans and rhesus monkeys
-Dogs
-baby elephants
-hippopotamus calves
Reasons for coprophagia
-Help the animals access nutrients they couldn't digest during the first eating process
-Herbivorous use coprophagic behavior to obtain essential nutrients produced by microbes present in the digestive tract
-Elephant and hippo calves eat their mothers' or fellow herd members feces during their transition from milk to solid food -consumption. This process helps the calves to establish healthy bacterial communities in their guts, which, in turn, aids normal digestion.

I always wondered what that was about.

hope now you know

So does that mean I shouldn't be paying for 'sewerage' on my water bill because I am actually helping them out with valuable nutrients they could digest?
