I was watching a video by local hunter posted in local group. First I not understand what is that round object they extract from porcupine digestive system. I google and found out it porcupine bezoar.
A bezoar is a mass of food trapped in an animal's digestive system, usually from consuming grass and herbs. Traditional medicine practitioners claim that porcupine bezoar has many healing properties. There's high demand for porcupine bezoars in black market, and it is said that medicinal shops can charge as much as $160 (RM700) for under half a gram!
Porcupines killed due to the myth, the bezoar can cure many illness like cancer, diabetes, dengue and a host of other conditions. It sick to learn people believe food eaten by porcupine like grass, herbs and become ball in it digestive system will cure their illness. I personally would not want to contribute to the illegal trade of porcupine bezoars and choose hospital than killing these poor soul. Stop killing animals because of the myth associate to it.
