Las vacas reconocen sus bebés a distancia, lo reconocen entre cientos de terneros, cuando están en manadas o en corrales de pastoreo, los reconocen por un olor y un sonido particular, diferente, característico de cada ternero, solo identificable por su madre. Cada uno de ellos es único para su mamá, así mismo los terneros las reconocen a ellas entre cientos de vacas por lo mismo, porque ellas tienen un olor característico, distinguible solo para ellos. Entre jaulas, ambas presas, estiran sus cuellos para alcanzarse y besarse.
