Barakamon follows a young man in his early 20’s who grew up in Tokyo. Disciplined and diligent, Handa Seishuu has gained mainstream recognition for winning competition after competition in calligraphy. He believes replicating works of master calligraphers (including his father) and sticking to the fundamentals produces the greatest beauty. The story begins when he leaves Tokyo for a rural country side island after punching the competition’s art director in the face for dismissing his recent entry as rigid and conformist. Between the slow paced, laid back townsfolk and a little girl with a personality of limitless play, "sensei" as he has been named comes face to face with his own humanity. Watch as he re-discovers enjoyment for his work and finds happiness through the care and concern of people around him. After creating something vivid on a whim, will he remain on the island to continue developing his own style and character or will he choose to take his talent back to Tokyo to enter the next competition? A slice of life anime and an excellent light hearted comedy. Refreshing to watch a plot not set in high school or university.
