Kekkaishi is an anime that tells of the successors of Kekkaishi's blood (similar to Omnyouji) who has a special Kekkai technique to kill Ayakashi. The Ayakashi are demons that look to feast on the power emanating from the land of Karasumori, which also happens to be where Yoshimori’s high school is located. Now, Yoshimori must fight to protect his beloved school and hometown. Although, if it were up to him, he would rather be baking cakes than fighting off the ugly characters that show up at night. The successors of this Kekkaishi are Yoshimori Sumimura (from the Sumimura Clan) and Tokine Yukimura (from the Yukimura Clan). These two families for hundreds of years guarded Karasumori's land from Ayakashi's threat. Although the tasks shared by both are the same, but these two families never get along and always compete.
Unlike their ancestors who always compete, Yoshimori and Tokine always seem to get along. Although it seems Tokine only consider Yoshimori only as a younger brother, but Yoshimori seems to harbor feelings on Tokine.
The main attraction of this series is contained in the development of relations between Yoshimori and Tokine, about their affairs with Karasumori, as well as efforts both to become stronger and mature. Yoshimori who always looked sleepy and tangled, is told since long ago liked Tokine is known as a model student. So he often confused himself with Tokine's attitude that now prefer to stay away if his business is not about their 'job'. But on the other hand, Yoshimori is actually traumatized by a childhood experience when Tokine almost died while protecting himself from ayakashi, and Tokine's father who became his predecessor kekkaishi died young at the same age for the same reason.
One day Karasumori Land which is now the location of their school gets attack from a Yokai organization named Kokuboro. thethings get more thrilling when they introduced us a new enemy. A more dangerous Ayakashi whose aimed is still the same like others, gaining Karasumori’s power. Things get more complicated and serious, even there are some episodes that made me even cry! The funny things are still there of course, but the story has become more complicated and to me, it’s a good thing. The ending of this anime is both satisfying and not satisfying.
