1. Ninja Scroll
Ninja scroll is my all time favorite anime. Number one on my list, I have watched it so many times I lost count.
Based around a swordsman who must fight a group on enemies all with a unique set of skills.
This is a must see anime, even though it was released back in 1993 it's one of the best.

2. Akira
Akira would have to be next on my list. It's another anime I have watched so many times and never get sick of it.
Set in the future in Neo-Tokyo, it's based around two members of a biker gang who get caught up in a secret military project.
I always appreciate the artwork of Akira, love it. An outstanding anime which was made in 1988.
Great storyline, great artwork.

3. Golgo 13 Queen Bee
It was difficult to decide where this one sits on my list, short n sweet it would have been number 2 if it went for longer.
Based around a hired assassin who must hunt down the illusive queen bee.
Has a great set of characters, great artwork and story line. I have watched so many times and never get tired of it.

4. Samurai X
This would be number 4 for me.
Samurai x is a 6 part series based around the life of a swordsman Rurouni Kenshin.
The animation is awesome and it has a great story line, and plenty of blood is spilt throughout the series.
This is another anime which I have watched countless times and it never gets old.

5. Spirited Away
Well this would be number 5 on my list.
Although I prefer action and blood n guts, I really appreciate the artwork done by Studio Ghibli.
The story line and animation are awesome.

Akira was definitely what first got me into Anime, my fav is always Rurouni Kenshin (Series was I believe before the Samurai X movies).

Haven't seen the samurai x movies yet
The Rurouni Kenshin series is well worth the watch with understanding how he became a wanderer and history of the series etc.
