2nd Hive Philippines Community Meeting

It was another successful community meeting among Hivers in the Philippines. The gathering started at 10 AM and lasted until 11:48 in the morning, Philippine Time.

First in the room were @Guruvaj and @Romeskie who both clocked in almost at the same time, thank you so much for being really supportive of this initiative, and showing up early in the meeting. You both are amazing leaders of the Hive community.

After a few minutes, members of the Hive community started pouring in. It was amazing to see these wonderful people who were part of the Steem Community since its early stages and are now fully supporting the migration and rebranding of most initiatives to that of Hive. A huge warm welcome to @kennyroy and @arrliinn who have been on hiatus for some time, and are both back in Hive helping new hivers learn the ropes. We also got to meet @mrnightmare89 and @ybanezkim26 who - by the way - were the first friends I got to meet in the community when I was still on Steem. they both patiently onboarded me on the platform. I remember Nightmare explaining Actifit to me via message posts, and Kim was patiently answering my questions on posts too. Thank you very much. :-)

Of course, I also have to give a warm welcome to @fycee who pulled me in the @appics community, and has been heavily involved on onboarding people on Appics. Slowly but surely, he too has been helping more and more steem users learn Hive - "one Appics user at a time".

And let's not forget @Atongis, I remember him from when I first started on Steem. I wrote an article about my first month as a Steem user and he was one of the first to offer help to create an account for some of my friends. Thank you so much, Sir. It took a while for me to find where the memo message was, and yet you were so kind to really reach out via discord instead. I unfortunately got locked out on Discord, but will restart my account there so hopefully, I get to touchbase with all the community members of Hive there again soon. I'm counting days until my email gets activated again.

Meeting Highlights

We honestly talked about a lot of stuff, and I could barely keep up with the information that was pouring in. But it was amazing to really find out how diverse the community is. There were conversations around the politics between Hive and Steem, the growth of the Philippine Hive Community, onboarding, and supporting HivePH. Here were the highlights of the meeting:

#1 - Support HivePH Community

@Romeskie shared that SteemPH has rebranded as @HivePH, and that HivePH is not an exclusive community. The goal of HivePH is to bring the Filipino community together through curation and post promotion.

HivePH continues to do curation and post promotion as it has done before. As of now, it has @romeskie and @mrnightmare89 as curators. The goal is to see more Filipinos who are actively posting and interacting in the Hive platform. And so, if you have the passion for recognizing quality work on Hive, please reach out to @romeskie and @bearone and state your intention of becoming a HivePH Curator.

#2 - Grow the Community by Powering Up on Hive

@guruvaj explained that more and more applications are slowly rebranding themselves to support the Hive blockchain. The pace is moving fast. Although with the recent news of bitcoin halving which will happen in less than 2 days, some initiatives are probably at a halt until the market stabilizes again. While this is happening, the members of the community must continue to support the growth of Hive by "Powering Up".

@guruvaj explained the benefits of powering up. He shared that the more Hive Power (HP) one accumulates, the higher your voting value becomes, and in turn, the more income you can potentially get when curating or upvoting (supporting) posts. He also mentioned the 2% inflation of Hive which can give additional earnings to community members who own higher stakes or HP.

@romeskie explained how delegation works and how powerful delegation can be. This can definitely help a lot of new users on Hive who do not own a lot of HP. By delegating a few HP - maybe about 20 HP - to some of our new members, we can help our newbies post, and engage other posts.

By "Powering Up", we do not just support Hive, but we also support the community through upvotes and delegation.

#3 - Show Support to Contests Sponsored by our Community Leaders

@MrNightmare89 started a contest for all Hive members. This week's contest has been extended. All one needs to do is to freewrite an article about the Philippines.

#4 - Invite more New Members to Hive

It is only through having new members that a community can grow, and one best practice is by invitation. It is encouraged that members invite both veteran and new members to join Hive. Through online gatherings such as what happened earlier today, more and more members can really find out how rewarding it is to be part of Hive.
