Heute geht es nochmals um Geräte und Software beziehungsweise APP. Was braucht man und was muss man tun um Matter zu nutzen.
Muss ich neue Geräte kaufen?
Einige Hersteller haben ihre Produkte bereits für matter vorbereitet. Sobald matter offiziell startet, wird bei diesen Geräten ein Firmware-Update ausreichen, um den neuen Smarthome Standard zu unterstützen. Andere Geräte erfüllen hingegen unter Umständen nicht die nötigen Voraussetzungen. Dann kann es passieren, dass der Hersteller eine neue Gerätegeneration veröffentlichen wird. Es ist also von Fall zu Fall unterschiedlich und kann nur der entsprechende Hersteller beantworten. Möchtet ihr weiterhin nur Apple HomeKit nutzen, brauchen eure Geräte allerdings auch kein matter Update. Muss ich künftig noch auf das “Works with HomeKit” - Logo achten?
Langfristig sollen alle matter Geräte auch über Apples Home App steuerbar sein. Allerdings wird es auch in Zukunft HomeKit spezifische Geräte geben, wie HomeKit Secure Video Kameras oder auch die neu vorgestellten Türschlösser mit Home keys. Dabei werdet ihr auch künftig auf das “Works with HomeKit” Logo achten müssen. Bei einfachen Geräten, wie etwa einem Zwischenstecker, reicht jedoch die Unterstützung von matter.
Benötige ich für matter einen weiteren Hub?
Nein, für matter wird kein weiterer Hub benötigt. Stattdessen sollen die Geräte direkt miteinander kommunizieren. Über WiFi und LAN eingebundene Geräte sind zudem direkt in das Heimnetzwerk eingebunden. Bei Thread fähigen Geräten schlagen sogenannte Border Router die Brücke in das Heimnetzwerk. Ein Border Router kann aktuell ein HomePod Mini oder Apple TV ab 2021 sein. Doch auch Nanoleaf hat bereits angekündigt, dass die Elements- und Shape-Controller künftig als Border Router fungieren werden.
Haben matter-Geräte denselben Funktionsumfang wie native HomeKit-Geräte?
Ja! Das Hinzufügen neuer Geräte läuft wie bei HomeKit-Geräten und auch die Steuerung ist wie gehabt über Apples Home App, HomeKit - Apps von Drittanbietern und sogar über Siri möglich. Die Organisation in Räumen, Zonen und mehr ist ebenfalls vorgesehen und sogar in Automationen können matter Geräte vollständig genutzt werden. Ihr könnt euer HomeKit Zuhause künftig also auch mit matter Geräten weiter ausbauen.
