As Seen On TV products what can I say but, MOM, Dad's buying more junk. Whenever you purchase one of these products you are always taking a chance that it will do nothing but take your money. When I first seen this on TV I thought it would be so nice to have something that is going to help me speed up my time in the kitchen when preparing for special occasions, or even better for everyday use. You could find this at your local Walgreens store or you can order it from the TV ad or just go on line and order one there. This will only cost you $20.00 plus shipping and handling. This is supposed to slice and dice anything that you put inside of it.
Description
This appliance is made totally of plastic with the exception of the 2 blades (a julienne and a slicer blade). They are made of stainless steel. This total unit weighs only 1 pound and 10.9 ounces; it is 11" long x 5" high x 5" high. There is a 2-5/8" hole in the center (called the feeder chute)that will allow you to put you fruits and vegetables in. this also comes equipped with a press which will help you push the food all the way into the Slice-O-Matic. This has two locking sliding levers that will lock the top to the catch container underneath. In order for you to get this to slice, it has a spring loaded arm that comes back automatically when you let it go. This also has four rubber feet on the bottom permanently attached so that you don't scratch the surface of your countertops.
Experience
Now that my closet is getting full I thought that it needed another gadget in the closet. When I got this home I tried to make it look as easy as it did on the TV, but when I stuck a cucumber inside of the food chute, I proceeded to lift up and down on the slicer handle and the contraption flopped all over the place. It takes two hands to handle this machine. It also says that you should not have to apply any pressure but again you have to apply some pressure to the vegetable to get it to go further into the slicer. This also does not work too well on tomatoes, this will work so so if you work at it but as I said under my breath, I thought it would be easier and faster just to use a sharp knife. I also noticed that there was a lot of clean up afterwards. Even though there is not much to this machine it does come apart so that you can throw it into the dishwasher. This is dishwasher safe if you do not use the sanitizer setting, this setting is too hot for the plastic that this is made of. If you do use too hot of water you could possibly make the plastic warp and it will not work correctly the next time that you use it.
Conclusion
I am sorry to say that after using this on several different types of vegetables and fruits, you can get the job done a lot quicker and less clean up with the use of a knife. I was really disappointed in the results that I got. If this would have had some suction cups to hold the whole thing down to the counter top then you would only have to use one hand to get this to work. This just seems like they do make it look a lot easier on TV other than when you get the product home. But, they sure know what they were doing, they got my money. All I can say is save your money on this one, better off using some kind of sharp knife. Nice try Telebrands, but you only get one star.
