1. Be My Eyes - Helping the blind
Introduction :
This app allows visually impaired people to connect to volunteers through a video call and get required assistance as and when required.

This app currently has 64,627 visually impaired users and 9,28,605 volunteers who are serving them.
Once you install the app you have the below two options and you can register either as a user or a volunteer
- I am blind or visually impaired
- I am a sighted volunteer
With a rating of 4.9 on playstore, this app serves its purpose and had won many awards.
2. KNFB Reader
Introduction :
This app will read out any text from images or documents helping the visually impaired people. It converts text to speech or braille. Visually impaired users can simply click a photo and can listen to the text on the image through this app.

KNFB reader reads PDF's, images, menus, bills, documents etc and supports multiple languages like English, Italian, German, Russian etc.
3. Lazarillo GPS for Blind
Introduction :
This app helps visually impaired people in reaching their destinations using the mobile data and GPS. It continues to guide the user using audio messages all through the route till he/she reaches the destination safely.

This app tells you about the nearby places, streets and will inform you about all the places around while you are travelling through the route. This app can also run in the background if you are active on other application.
4. Notification Reader: Shouter
Introduction :
As the name states, this app reads out all the notifications on the user's mobile.

Apart from reading notifications, it announces battery levels, caller name, time and also reads text messages.
5. Blind Communicator
Introduction :
This app is a specially designed launcher for blind people using smart phones and tablets. The app comes with a voice guide which tells everything that's happening in the device.

Visually impaired people find it very easy to make / receive calls, send / receive SMS, set up alarms, create contacts and all the basic operations using this app.

What a great and helpful post, I am involved in a home for the aged and most of the residents have at the least some visual impairment and this post could give some relief to at least some of them. Thank you for the info. and a great post.

This is really great. I love seeing people helping other people in need. I still don't fully understand how this works but I find it very interesting. I personally don't know anybody who's completely blind but I do know a few people that are visually impaired. I'm definitely going to let them know about this.

I feel very happy when I see technology helping to make people's life better. As an android lover I always try to encourage people to help others through their apps. For many years and even today technology is blamed of destruction of environment, making people lazy and as a cause of many diseases.That's not completely wrong. But every thing has pros and cons. And the bright side of it is more powerful. Only thing we need to do is trying.

I downloaded Be My Eyes as I thought it was an amazing sounding app. However, I never actually got a request to help. But this is a great thing, it shows how many people are using it, and how many people are there to help. Such a cool app concept!

This really helps, one of my colleagues' project is also about visualy impaired people. It also sends location of the person and alerts the family of any case the blind encounters trouble.

This is really great. I like to see people helping others in need. I still do not understand how this works but I find it very interesting. I personally do not know a person who is completely blind but I know some people who have vision problems. I will definitely let them know about this.
