Exploring Japan - A Visit to Awaji Yumebutai on Awaji Island

yume9.jpg

Following on from my visit to the Water Temple on Awaji Island is Yumebutai, approximately a 20 to 30 minute walk from the Water Temple location. As you might have already guessed from the photos, this was also designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and was part of my 'Homeage to Tadao Ando' series that I'm currently partaking in for a personal project of mine.

Yumebutai, which means "Dream Stage", or metaphorically "a place in which to dream", in Japanese is a complex consisting of a conference centre, hotel and memorial in Awaji, Hyogo Prefecture. This was built near the epicentre of the Great Hanshin Awaji earthquake and was already being designed by Tadao Ando prior to the earthquake but was completed and tweaked after.

I would say the stand out component of this complex, although all the architecture is incredible and dreamlike, is the "hundred stepped gardens" towards the top of the complex. It's quite a walk but was made as a prayer garden in tribute to the victims of the earthquake, with each section having a different meaning and different types of planting.

Here are some pictures that I took on my trip. I think they convey the overall landscape ,but it was difficult to really capture the beauty as it's so vast and was almost like an architectural journey, especially seeing all the beautiful shadows and hearing the echoes made thanks to this large structure designed by Tadao Ando. Scattered throughout are different pieces of art, all of which link in with the overall theme. Enjoy.

Great photos, thanks for capturing these magical places so well.

Thanks @solar. Means a lot. Sometimes I wonder if people are enjoying my posts here on Steemit or not. I'm glad you left a comment as it inspires me to keep going.

Steem is tough. It's improving slowly, but there are many problems. For one, i'm sure more than 90% of followers (in both our cases) are largely bots or otherwise completely inactive.

It's a noble experiment to take part in though, traditional social media is a vampire on our society.

I know my upvotes aren't much, but i'll keep supporting you here on steem as best i can.

Hey, how's your trip to Kansai?

I have set an autovoting rule for all your upcoming posts and delegated 30sp to you out of my remaining 68sp. The 30s is not much but as support for you to sail through your steemit journey. Glad to have known you. Keep it up.

Hey @prch! My trip to Kansai was fun :) Although I'm sad to hear about the recent earthquake and flooding. It happened just after I left. I am back in the UK now so I have some articles ready to go but have had to catch up on work for a few days.

That's really generous. Thanks so much for that. I didn't know you can set an autovoting rule. I will have to look in to that so I can autovote you too!

I was reading your cooking lesson and saw your hotel stay. Both were great. Keep up the good work :)

I always think you have been under-rated on steemit, you've been doing exceptionally well consistently producing eye-catching content, you deserve more and thats why I didn't mind sharing with you how to get more out of each post a couple of months ago. I still remember your sushi reply, haha. Keep up the excellent work, not easy.

By the way, I was checking out your delegation and you are using @steembasicincome. Is it worth me setting this up too? Seems like an interesting project. Do you get some benefits?

Also check out @archisteem

Use #archisteem and #placestoremember to get your archi-related posts to be qualified and get upvoted. @archisteem is truly amazing and flexible in accepting posts, they counted my park post. I'm sure most of your posts will standout there.

Whoa, thanks @prch for promoting @archisteem! Really appreciate that. The community needs people like you and @oen.

To @oen, feel free to use the tag #archisteem and also check out our #placestoremember project. Your stories are just the contents that the team is looking for.

I can add you to steembasicincome, but don't expect much at the beginning. Most likely, you will get a 0.01 upvote each from them. To increase the amount of each upvote from them, you have to add as many as people you know (steembasic need 1 Steem to process each invite, you need to send 1 Steem straight from your wallet each occasion) to them to sort of grow your shares or network, the more shares or larger the network, the more $ in each upvote you will have from them.

I delegated some 20 sp to steembasicincome just to increase my shares there, thus a larger upvote each. So far, I have added 3 people from HK to steembasicincome and delegated 20s, I get about 0.07 each as an upvote from steembasicincome.

Done, added you to steembasicincome, 4 steems for you, sort of like you will have 4 shares there.

It will take a couple of days for them to process and you will receive a wallet message once done. Good luck.Screen Shot 2018-07-16 at 7.34.38 pm.png

I doubt I will but I never say Never, well except I just said it twice now LOL

Wow what an amazing place to visit. I love the square gardens! I bet it would've been so much better to witness in real life. I will keep this place in mind for next time. Thanks for sharing

Yeah, it was much better in person. I have lots of other photos but I thought these ones here captured it the best. Maybe I will save the others for another time :D

I absolutely adored stepped gardens/ terraces!

Beautiful shots 👏 the architecture is very impressive! I especially like these small square gardens very much.

This is a very beautiful place, it is pleasant to dream here. Thank you for sharing :)
