Lightning Strikes Plane in a Rainbow in Amazing Viral Image

Not only did German photographer Birk Möbius capture a perfectly-timed photo of lightning striking a plane, but it all took place perfectly-framed within a rainbow. In his 500px post, Möbius described it as the "most unique and spectacular" photo he's ever taken. Möbius took the photo in August of 2014 at Taucha aerodrome in Germany. Mental Floss reported the Boeing 777 landed safely on its journey from Frankfurt to Leipzig. "This is an example of a combination of separately infrequent weather events happening simultaneously, leading to an extraordinary event in that it was photographed," says weather.com senior digital meteorologist Jonathan Erdman. "I can only imagine the combination of fear and awe from the window seat of this flight, experiencing the lightning strike with a rainbow in view."Planes are struck by lightning more often than you might think. According to Scientific American, commercial airplanes are struck by lightning at least once a year.
