The Ark of the Covenant has vanished from history, hidden until the one who concealed it returns to reveal it once more. According to ancient Merkava literature, when Levites secretly removed the Ark from Jerusalem, they transported it to an undisclosed location where they encountered angels known as the Benei Elohim. These celestial beings took custody of the Ark, charged with guarding it until their Heavenly Master commands its return to Earth. Those searching for the Ark today will find their efforts futile, as it no longer exists anywhere on our planet.
Interestingly, the Talmud reveals a little-known fact: two Arks were actually created—one by Moses and another by Betzalel. Moses' Ark temporarily housed the Tablets of the Commandments until Betzalel completed his version. Afterward, Betzalel's creation became the primary Ark, while Moses' was repurposed as the "Ark of War," accompanying the Israelite army into battle and emitting some form of energy that struck down enemies. The current whereabouts of Moses' Ark remain unknown—it could be buried beneath the Temple Mount, hidden in Ethiopia, or concealed in a Negev desert cave.
What's certain is that while Moses' Ark possessed great power, Betzalel's Ark was superior, designed according to divine blueprints to mirror the Heavenly Ark. Betzalel received special wisdom—specifically knowledge of primordial creative forces—which was essential for constructing the Ark. This suggests the Ark was far more than a mere ornate box of wood and gold; its construction required advanced technological understanding. Betzalel was a master of the creative arts described in the Sefer Yetzirah, applying this knowledge to his creation. The exact purpose and methodology behind these applications remain mysteries lost with the Ark itself.
The Ark was much more than an elaborate container. When the Divine Presence filled it, the golden Cherubim statues atop it came alive, their wings moving and opening. While Betzalel crafted the physical forms, the Shekhina (Divine Presence) animated them. We might wonder whether this animation was purely miraculous or if creation technology from the Sefer Yetzirah played a role in their construction. Logic suggests some combination of both.
The earthly Ark was created in the image of its heavenly counterpart, suggesting a communication channel between the two. Though modern sages often describe spiritual realms as entirely non-corporeal, this perspective comes from those lacking direct experience with such dimensions. The relationship might be better understood through modern concepts like virtual reality or holographic imagery—different realities with different properties yet capable of interaction.
As a communication device, the Ark allowed a properly prepared individual—the High Priest—to connect with Heaven. This communication differed significantly from our modern technology. The High Priest underwent specific preparations, following regulations designed to alter him down to the genetic level. Psychologically and biologically conditioned from a young age, he became the sole individual capable of "placing a long-distance call" to Heaven.
The communication process was complex. The High Priest would approach the Ark wearing the mysterious Urim, Tumim, and the Hoshen Mishpat (Breastplate of Judgment). The Urim, bearing divine names, was placed in a secret pocket within the Hoshen. The exact nature and construction of these items remain unknown. Communication appeared telepathic—the High Priest would mentally focus on his question, and the Ark would somehow transmit the message.
During this process, stones on the Hoshen would illuminate, specific letters would glow, and a high-pitched sound would emerge. Untrained observers couldn't interpret these signals, but specialized priests recorded which lights activated and in what sequence. The response never appeared as clear sentences or words, but rather as seemingly garbled letters and sounds that required interpretation through techniques similar to those Betzalel employed with the Sefer Yetzirah.
When Israel entered the period of exile, the Ark, Urim, Tumim, and Hoshen were concealed, severing direct communication with Heaven. This explains why prophecy subsequently diminished. While lower forms of communication with angels remained possible, direct connection with the divine was lost. Over centuries, even angelic communication has been preserved by only a select few who carefully guard their knowledge and identities.
Rather than focusing on future revelations, we can explore the secrets contained within the Torah today. Our sages teach that the entire Torah functions as a holistic divine communication—essentially one long Name of God in its original form, not divided into words and sentences. This understanding allows for non-linear reading methods and special formulas for combining letters, creating what are commonly called Holy Names. These combinations function more as formulas than literal names, used to expand consciousness through specific sound vibrations that affect brain chemistry. The High Priest likely employed such a formula when approaching the Ark.
It's unfortunate that the study of Torah's secrets remains largely confined to religious scholars without scientific training, as their limited scientific knowledge prevents exploring certain aspects of Torah's inner powers. Conversely, secular scientists without Torah-observant lifestyles would lack the necessary consciousness to properly begin such research.
The Torah's power should not be underestimated. Its origins might appropriately be termed extraterrestrial—a perspective that shouldn't alarm us, as science and spirituality represent two halves of the same whole. Like most Torah-faithful individuals, many long for prophecy's restoration and the Ark's return to Jerusalem. This would require approaching Torah correctly to extract its consciousness-expanding codes. If humanity collectively sent strong messages heavenward, communication might eventually be restored. Indeed, Heaven may well be waiting for our call.
