The painting you see below is the work of a computer algorithm.
Within 18 months of work, engineers from the Advertising Agency J. Walter Thomson and Microsoft programmers made the impossible posible. At the request of Bank ING, these people showed that artificial intelligence is able to create beauty.
The first stage of the project was to analyze 346 paintings by Rembrandt. A special algorithm using the facial recognition system was to capture the characteristic features of the artist's style. These include, for example, the way the artist paints the nose and eyes.
The second step was to print the image in a 3D printer. The machine applied 13 layers of ink that would imitate the layout and color palette used by the Dutch painter.
The end result is deliberately similar to one of Rembrandt's works. Judge for yourself whether I'm telling the truth.
