Recuerdo que la primera vez que asistí a un taller de ilustración, el profesor, alguien a quien le tengo un profundo aprecio, me dijo: Lo más importante es que sepas determinar cuando será una ilustración descriptiva y cuándo será narrativa.
Eso fue una especie de revelación para mí, que apenas incursionaba en el mundo de la ilustración editorial.
En ésta imagen sin texto, la ilustración es narrativa en lo siguiente: cuando vemos los tres cuadros podemos determinar un punto en común, los labios. Aunque son dos personajes diferentes, vemos que en el segundo cuadro hago un enfoque de los labios del personaje del tercer cuadro, que parece estar a punto de hablar, y por su gesto deducimos que es algo doloroso. También sabemos que cuando amamos a alguien de forma romántica nuestra mirada se centra en los labios de la persona que nos gusta.
Así empezamos a narrar una historia sin palabras. Y que el resto quede a tu imaginación.
Acá les comparto mi proceso de colorización, utilizando adobe photoshop.

I remember that the first time I attended an illustration workshop, the professor, someone to whom I have a deep appreciation, told me: The most important thing is that you know how to determine when it will be a descriptive illustration and when it will be narrative.
That was a kind of revelation for me, who barely dabbled in the world of editorial illustration.
In this image without text, the illustration is narrative in the following: when we see the three pictures we can determine a point in common, the lips. Although they are two different characters, we see that in the second frame I focus on the lips of the character in the third frame, who seems to be about to speak, and by her gesture we deduce that it is something painful. We also know that when we love someone in a romantic way we focus our eyes on the lips of the person we like.
Thus we begin to tell a story without words. And the rest is to your imagination.
