I was inspired to draw a frog as we have quite rainy days,
which is a very good thing for the nature,
...and for me as I hardly can stand the heat ;-)
A frog in my mind, I began to sketch in a thick cardboard at the dimension for a bookmark
(unfortunately I didn't think to shot this stage, in fact I didn't thought to share the process at first, the idea just came a bit later..LoL)
Then I colored the frog with my Derwent Inktense pencils, a mix of green and yellow
They are Ink pencils that are watersoluble
You can use them dry but I prefer to use a brush and water which turn the colour into dazzling ink ;-)
Same colouring with the stars, in pink,
but here I used my fav Neocolor II that act like the previous, but are water-soluble wax pastels
Then I colored the background with yellow and orange Neocolor that I washed with water,
and forgot to take a shot ! ^_^
...will do better next time ;-)
Then one of my favourite stage is to play with shadows
I say one of my favourite when in fact I enjoy all the stages of a painting, so they are all my fav but for different reasons and feelings ^_^
So I took the perfect tools for that : the Faber-Castel Pitt felt pens...
I use them in the places I want to highlight, darken or accentuate
these felts are wonderful as I can blend the color as long as they are not dry,
usually with a Q tip, and sometimes with a wet brush like here...
then they become permanent when dried ;-)
I outlined the froggy creature with a 0.05 Uni Pin fineliner,
which is water and fade proof pigment ink
I painted then a verso,
which is usually a less elaborated one,
yet with the same vivid colors and using the same tools....
The triangles are made with a stencil and not by adding white but removing green, I rub a damp cloth on the stencil and as the ink is water soluble, all the parts moistened through the stencil will have the Color removed ... how clever is that ? ^_^
Here are all the magical tools I've used to make this bookmark,
- including a white POSCA for the little white dots,
- a turquoise matte flow acrylic paint from JOSONJA for the stains of blue in the background
- a UNI pencil 0.7 for the sketch
At the end I would coat it with layers of glassifying and vitrifying resin, without solvent or acid, which makes the whole very shiny, smooth and resistant ^_^
I was lucky that sun came back yesterday
today is raining again, and very strong, so I stay at home and begin another bookmark ;-)

Awwww... I read it! And totally enjoyed your bookmark-making process! I really did - lol, as I made one as a kid, well, not really but at about 10 years.... 😉 And it was a sunset! Here, you used a stencil and damp cloth, to remove the green instead of painting in the white - I love that as its got the nice soft sides to the triangles!

I absolutely, positively love seeing how this is done along with the actual tools you use! So using a triangle and wet cloth to remove the green is easy? Doesn't over saturate the paper? I have often wondered what you use to get such brilliant colors and now I know.
You say you start with thick cardboard? Is this not a thick type of watercolor paper? It doesn't appear to be cardboard as we know it in the US, the brown colored cardboard.
How else could I purchase any bookmarks since I don't have enough Steem?
Yes this is a thick watercolour paper (140 lb) , maybe I was wrong when I wrote cardboard then ? I might make some mistakes when translating the artistic vocabulary unfortunately...

I read the post eagerly Barbara as I am an artist at heart! I had drawn all my life and haven't much recently but your work really makes me itch for wanting to paint or draw again. The colors are what draw me as well as your fabulous characters that you delight everyone with.
If you would rather wait for Steem, I can just wait. I do have PP to pay as well. Yes you are the artist so the choice how to sell is yours, not mine.
Oh, and no worries on the translation. I figured it was most likely watercolor paper so that's why I brought it up. I myself can only speak one language so I bow to anyone who can fluently read and write more than one!! You did a fabulous job explaining everything, I understand it all, nothing is spelled wrong, no grammar mistakes, just as if you spoke and wrote English as a first language.
Petite question, est-ce que tu " fixes " tes couleurs ? Je sais pas trop si c'est utile mais est-ce que ça peut pas couler (?) / s'abimer si y a de l'eau dessus par exemple ?
Alors j'ai justement oublié de préciser (je débute carrément dans le domaine explicatif, autant te dire... ) qu'entre chaque étape, je passe une tite couche de vernis pour pas que mes couleurs bavent...je la passe une fois que je suis sure de ne plus vouloir me servir du coté aquarellable de mes crayons bien sûr, vu qu'après ma couleur est fixée ;-)
par contre ce qui est très (très) délicat, c'est que quand je passe le medium pour vernir, cela peut emporter un peu la couleur. donc c'est là qu'il faut être le contraire éthéré d'un bourrin et passer une titite toute légère couche en effleurant avec le pinceau (j’exagère mais c'est pour donner l'idée), bref il faut faire ça calmement et proprement et plus cela aura séché avant, moins la couleur risquera de baver et être emmenée...le truc c'est que moi je ne sais pas trop trop attendre (ou alors pas longtemps, le temps de boire un café, pas plus), alors je seche avec un heat gun pour accelerer, mais l'ideal sur de grandes surfaces serait d'attendre de très longues heures ;-)
Donc, avec une couche de medium-vernis à chaque fois + à la fin le vernis glassificateur (mais là je n'en mets que pour les marque pages, parce qu'ils sont manipulés et fragilisés par l'usage) tout est impec et ne crains pas grand chose ;-)
