OBSCURATION #1

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I am experimenting with obscuration, the concept of hiding parts of an image. I have done similar things in the past and found them quite addictive.

In this image I am simply obscuring parts of an old photograph I found on the internet with broad brush strokes of paint that are similar to the colors of the photo. The strokes vary in transparency and only leave the viewer with suggestions of the original image.

The difficulty in this approach is knowing when to stop. It is easy to overwork the picture. In the end the obscurrations should add character to the image and look as though they belong.

I guess trying to put TF for some meaning?

Ha ha, well, I’m not sure what TF means, but perhaps it helps to find meaning.

I like it. I like repurposed photos that people paint on. It is one of my favorite forms of art

Thanks, I hope to be doing more in the coming days.

great creativity and thought actually...I tried something like before but never shared anywhere...

Thank you for sharing and have a nice day my friend...

There are many artists doing this sort of thing, my son recently showed me one that I really like, Arnolf Rainer, google him there are lots of interesting designs.

Fascinating. Thanks for sharing your technique. I would love to try something like this if I can ever find time outside of work and creative writing.

Thanks, glad you liked it.
