Pointillism update!
It stands to reason that a tattoo artist would use a micron pen in a pointillistic way. I knew of a Czech printmaker who would make a aquatint plate and then flick off individual rosin particles with a needle to create his design. To work like that must be occupational therapy for some, but it would drive me nuts.
The imagery looks familiar.
