here is my oil painting of an wonderful elefant in a abstract version.
Materials: For this picture I used a canvas of 60x50cm length and high quality oil colors, very important !!!
use always high quality oil colors and forget the cheap colors!
I can recommend the ''studio oil'' colors from different manufacturers. For which brand you decide does not matter, they are all at about the same level, it is a matter of taste. Some have a richer Color and other have less richer color but a better consistency that helps you to move and remove the color better. Try some different colors and find your best oil color for you.
To bring the color on the canvas I used a special pallet knife. You can get it in every art store or online for little money.
The knife helps you to create a expressive structure and this is what we want for the elefant, an old wrinkled skin, for this reason I decided to work with the pallet knife.
What do you have to pay attention to while painting?
Mix the color together you want and spread it flat on your color pallet.
Now you take some color with your pallet knife and go to the canvas.
Ist really important to use no pressure on the canvas. Slide evenly over the canvas and do not make the mistake to using to much paint at the beginning.
Remember : '' fat in lean '' layer after layer use a little more paint, '' start with little and finish with a lot. '' ;)
Certainly it needs time and practice but if you practice diligently you will succeed, because practice makes the master.
I belive there is an artist in each one of us, we just have to wake him up.
