Recently I took pictures of an authentic-looking figure made of bronze that is supposed to represent the Roman goddess Venus, which is also known as the goddess of love or beauty and is considered the equivalent of Aphrodite from the Greek mythology. According to legends, she was born from the foam of a shell that was washed on land after birth after the God of the wind helped her to transport her ashore and this scene of birth also has a high priority in art history and was painted especially during the Renaissance and the most famous painting probably comes from the Italian painter Sandro Botticelli. There are also similar goddesses in other cultures who have been equated with her and among the best-known examples are probably the Egyptian goddess Hathor and Ishtar from ancient Mesopotamia and also the well-known planet Venus was named after her and is considered a symbol of love. As a goddess of love and she was also regarded as a symbol of fertility and was considered by the Romans as a protector and in her honor some places of worship were built and in Rome there was a temple for her which was built by Julius Caesar and also in other parts of Italy such as Sicily there were places of worship and in Sicily is also considered the oldest and at that time this area was an important trading center between the Romans and the Phoenicians and this place of worship had some interesting oriental influences. In honor of Venus, a separate festival was also celebrated which took place annually and the focus here was on femininity and for the guests it was typical to decorate themselves with flowers or make sacrifices and it is believed that on this day the women got help from Venus when it came to their love life. Among the typical characteristics of Venus were the representation with pigeons, dolphins, mirrors or the typical shell and in ancient Rome she was definitely one of the most important and best-known goddesses that appears in numerous legends.
