Last week I did a post about Hive not really “needing” more users.
It got over 100 COMMENTS! Its been at least two years since I got 100 comments on a post. When it happens I take off my clothes and dance naked around the room, because that is engagement and it shows we are all Hive maniacs.
I wasn’t saying that new users are a bad thing, I was saying that we have enough users here already to do cool shit, but only if we actually do something. Like commenting on posts!
Commenting is not that difficult - you can just say a few words - votes are sort of anonymous, but comments are personal engagement and make people feel like someone is reading their posts.
Two years ago lots of posts on Steemit were getting over 100 comments - right now most of the posts on my feed have less than five. That needs a rev up.
POST ZEN COMMENTS - Don't be a dickhead! - If you disagree move on and find a post you like. I once got a comment "your a moran and you dont noe shit" - it's my all time favourite I must admit, but generally comments like that are best left for Twatter.
UPVOTE COMMENTS - One of my strange foibles is that I vote for all the replies that I get - now this is not big money - usually only 4 cents, and you only get half of that so that's only 2 cents. But if you do 100 replies to me you could earn US$2 which is probably enough to buy a small farm in a third world country.
If you have voting power, encourage more comments by upvoting them
INCLUDE PICTURES IN COMMENTS - sometimes I feel like I'm the only person doing this - but it transforms comment threads so just do it - and I'll tell you what - if you post comments with pictures on my posts I'll upvote you 10 cents, and you may soon be able to buy a new Lambo in a third world country
So chuck in some pictures and make your replies go off!

No, you don't get it. Comments and engagement are only good in large volume, as long as they are driven towards the posts of the entitled and elitist circle jerks around here😉. If you don't believe me, then go take a good look at the "right" posts and prove me wrong....The only proof you need, is that a couple of elitist circle-jerkers got extremely butt hurt at the mention of it, and they are the so-called leaders of "engagement" geared towards the "small fish". I wonder why, when you take a closer look at the obvious deception. As you are aware, nothing is what it really seems. Curation groups are another interesting topic of conversation. All the same characters spread throughout different curation groups. How is that possible? You know how.....

I find the issue of comments a difficult one, it seems a lot of newbies try hard having been encouraged to with the belief it will take them places. This is indeed true but some are over doing it and waffling on for the sake of commenting.
I tend to continue to engage with people who clearly have read my posts, it's frustrating when comments show the person engaging hasn't read a word of your post.
At the other end of the scale are the folk who when you try to make a nice long comment about a well written piece and all you get back is a conversation killing "thanks" or 👍. That dives me ........
It is a delicate balance ranging from spam "nice melons" or "find Jesus today" to comments that could be posts (bloody boring posts, but long posts nevertheless). I'm just looking for a bit of casual fun, a one sentence stand

I was just thinking about not getting as many comments..When I do make a post that gets decent hive dollars, but little comments.. I'd wish it was the other way around... The comments do inspire to be more creative... but to be honest comments & up votes is like ... icing on the cake....

People don't tend to upvote comments now because it gives poor curation rewards, but I think upvoting comments really gets things going
I did not know that upvoting comments get's poor curation rewards... I just thought people lie click-bait and are not reading the posts, on the whole... I honestly have no idea what the fuck is going on - I try to go through my feeds and read and comment daily - but I rarely get comments on my posts...although I am getting higher payouts

I used to get comments too back in the day. I also reward comments similarly. I'm not much of a commenter myself though.

You are absolutely right with your points. It can be so disgusting and discouraging to make a post several hours with no comment. More so, it could raise questions if a post with high reward has no comment on it. "How would you feel when you come across such?"
Engaging and thoughtful comments are really nice and make you become aware of other peoples' opinions about something which is really encouraging.
