There are a few types of watercolor paper with really high thickness that allow to create "on wet" with no fixing:) But most of them should be fixed, of course... Also I noticed that the more I practice - the less I need fixing, may be I just control the amount of water more:)

My paper is 190lb cotton and I use a lot of wet on wet work. I like 300lb hotpress. But that paper is so expensive, I bought the cheaper kind and have resorted to stretching for most of my simple pictures. Thanks for your support @inber!
