There was a point when I was in art school where I thought all abstract art was pretentious BS. I had a teacher that told me I'd get it one day. I liked and respected her, but at that I smugly laughed. Well she was right, and while I'm definitely not one of those people that would argue that it's harder/better/more pure/whatever than representational art, it's definitely a thing, and the more you learn about design, the more apparent it becomes, and you can see the abstract design in pretty much everything.
In the last couple of portraits I've done, I've been experimenting with the balance of representational and abstract elements, and I wanted to experiment a bit more with the tools to see what effects I could get. That's what this painting was about. I'll be painting a couple more portraits next week and I needed a little refresher.
On another note, I've got something interesting in the works to hopefully make some progress on helping all of Steem when it comes to UX, UI, Branding, Marketing and Design. So stay tuned. :)

Least you smugly laughed, I knew someone once who got all ragey at the abstract sculptures that have come up around here insisting that it’s not and never will be real art and they are absolutely 100%right and no one can tell them otherwise and anyone who disagrees is a pretentious idiot whose opinions and ideas are worthless 🤣
I love the colours in this, specially the dark purpley bit (my colour biases are showing again 😆).
