Chasing Twilight

in #artlast year

Its been a while again, my apologies. I got some drafts for blogs but I never got to publishing them.
Actually been doing some art for a project and that is taking most my time. Meanwhile the market has been what it is. I like to think i'm not affected so much by it, but it certainly hits the reality of things. Anyway, speaking of markets, this is my new piece continuing in a crypto meets Finnish folklore called

Chasing Twilight

Previous work in the series was Golden Apple of the Forest, which featured a bear. This one is my take on the "bull". Though there is actual bull in Kalevala for example, I wanted to add a little twist to it, taking it more to the woods. It is also thought that in ancient Finland there were two clans, one of the bear and one of the moose. So, this one, became a bull moose.

The moose may not be quite as feared as the bear, but in old times it was also a sacred animal, a revered ancestor born in the stars along with the bear. The one in this drawing was in particular inspired by tales of the Goblin’s moose, which was an animated construct made by the mischievous spirits of forest, in response to a hunter’s bragging to be able to catch any beast. The moose was let to run free and cause chaos in the north. And it would be then chased by the hunters with skis. It would be captured but only temporarily, before escaping and leading the prideful hunters astray by the mountains of the underworld. The moose is also chased by Lemminkäinen, one of the Kalevala’s heroes tasked by Louhi, mistress of the north, to prove his worth as a suitor. Lemminkäinen will fail at first trying to force the chase, but only after singing the praises and pleads to the people of the woods, He is able to capture the moose and bring it to the North, though that is not the end of his tasks
