Marbling ('Ebru' in Turkish) is a traditional Turkish-Islamic decorative art with a history of 600 years. Like calligraphy and miniature art, marbling is an art of Eastern origin.
'Ebru' is originated from the word Ebr, which means cloud in Persian. The name Ebru was given to many Turkish girls born in the 70s.
In the paints that will be used in the production of marbling, the properties such as soil paint, water melting resistance, and non-oil-containing are sought. Soil paints are derived from colored stones or rocks found in nature.
Ebru is created by giving shape to spilled paints on water. The paint is spread over the water with the animal bile added. The water must be 12 degrees Celsius in order for the animal bile to not smell. In addition, a white-colored kind of glue, "kitre", is mixed with water at a certain rate. Pre-prepared paints in cups are sprinkled on the water. Then the paint is shaped with a wooden spoon. Finally, a paper is laid on the water. After 5-10 seconds, marbling patterns are formed on the removed paper.
The processes carried out on the paints lead to the emergence of fractal patterns. In these works, you can see the order in chaos.
According to those who practice it, it's a very peaceful art. It is also used for therapeutic purposes.
Marbling has many different styles.
One of the main forming processes on the water is comb marbling done with a comb.
Marble patterned marbling is called "battal" marbling, which is made by sprinkling the paint on the liquid with the help of a brush and without interfering with anything like a needle or a comb.
The tidal marbling is a version of the comb marbling.
Nightingale nest marbling is a style that includes shaping the paint spread on the surface of the liquid by circular movements from big size to small size.

600 yıllık bir geçmişi olan ebru geleneksel bir Türk-İslam süsleme sanatıdır. Hat sanatı ve minyatür sanatı gibi ebru da doğu kökenli bir sanattır.
Ebru Farsçada bulut anlamına gelen ebr sözcüğünden türemiştir. 70'lı yıllarda doğan çok sayıda Türk kız çocuğuna Ebru esmi verilmiştir.
Ebru yapımında kullanılacak olan boyalarda toprak boya olması, suda erimemesi ve yağ ihtiva etmemesi gibi özellikler aranır. Toprak boyalar, doğada bulunan renkli taşlardan veya kayalardan elde edilir.
Ebru su üzerine yazı yazmak gibidir. Özelliği bu yazı ve şekillerin kalıcı olmasıdır.
Ebru su üzerine dökülen boyalara şekil verilerek icra edilir. Kullanılan boyaların suyun üzerinde yayılabilmesi için boyanın içine hayvan ödü katılır. Suya katılan hayvan ödünün kokmaması için suyun ısısının 12 santigrad derece olması gerekir. Ayrıca, geven denilen otun gövdesinden elde edilen ve
beyaz renkli bir tür zamk olan kitre, belli bir oranda suya karıştırılır. Fincanların içinde önceden hazırlanan boyalar suyun üzerine serpilir. Daha sonra tahta bir çucukla boyalara şekil verilir. En sonunda suyun üzerine bir kağıt serilir. 5-10 saniye sonra kaldırılan kağıt üzerinde ebru desenleri oluşmuş olur.
Suyun üzerinde boyalar üzerinde yapılan işlemler fraktal desenlerin ortaya çıkmasına yol açar. Bu eserlerde kaosun içinde düzeni görebilirsiniz.
Yapanların söylediğine göre çok huzur veren bir sanatmış. Terapi amaçlı olarak da kullanılmaktadır.
Ebru'nun birçok türü bulunmaktadır.
Başlıca türlerden olan taraklı ebruda su üzerindeki şekillendirme işlemleri tarakla yapılır.
Boyaların sadece fırça yardımıyla kitre üzerine serpilmesiyle oluşturulan ve iğne ya da tarak gibi herhangi bir şeyle müdahale edilmeden yapılan mermer desenli ebru çeşidine battal ebru denmektedir.
Gelgit ebrusu taraklı ebrunun bir versiyonudur.
Bülbül yuvası ebru tekne yüzeyine serpilen boyaları büyükten küçüğe doğru dairesel hareketler yaparak şekillendirmeyi içeren bir stildir.
