Reacting to Nudity in Art

Art is Supposed to Cause a Reaction

They say that art is supposed to cause a reaction. They say that if you push the boundaries that people will pay attention. I felt that perhaps this would be something that not all would see, so I put the nsfw tag on the drawing. That being said, I wanted to share mainly because at the end of the day... I see that there is a disparaging difference between trying to get a reaction about art and posting pornography and calling it art.

The Finished Product

Ultimately, I ended the project with this. I did this in conjunction with @art.gaming.magic with him adding the animation. I had tried with a couple of programs and it just didn't come out the way I wanted it. He was nice enough to add that part to it and voila! You have your own meat spin.

The point of this piece wasn't just to draw out someone with all the parts of male and female. It was more of an experiment to see how it would come out. I was testing my own boundaries and seeing how I felt in the process of making it. Then, I was curious to see what others thoughts.

Here is the original sketch with light color.

The Creation

I drew this out with pencil first, then traced over it with pen and then put it on the phone. I prefer to use ToolWiz or other phone apps while my partner prefers Krita and Photoshop. The funny thing is, I can use Photoshop just fine but I prefer working with my finger. For the coloring I used Pixlr.

It didn't take long and was a fun piece. In the end, I think it was a questioning of my own gender biases. I tend to think of gender as binary. I understand that it is fluid and I get that it is not black and white, as it is a complex issue or concept. That being said, my own beliefs can be my own and I can still respect others.

The question I have is where is the line drawn? I had people tell me when they saw this that they thought this was funny (which is why I added the spinning dong to it) and then others told me it was offensive. I certainly didn't mean to offend, I only want people to think. But where does the line get drawn where it is offensive? How come it is so difficult to talk about the issues of gender and sexuality?

I believe compassion should be used in all forms, which includes art as well.

I don't think that this piece is offensive personally. However, if it were the breasts that were jiggling instead of the cock spinning, I have wondered if that would make me more uncomfortable? i am not sure. I am working on and through my own process. Expect to see more of this piece with other things changed or added.
