The Enchanted River Series #2

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hey Everyone

My name Jason Todd and today I wanted to share the second in a series of paintings that I've been creating.

It's a series of paintings that follows an enchanted river that weaves it's way through a series of "neighborhoods" in a magical land where creatures reside in homes made from trees and earth. In the series there is a little sailboat that travels down the river stopping off in different ports along the way.

forest-town--final.jpg

The goal with this piece was to create a busy feeling town on the enchanted river. My feeling when I look at this painting is that in the far back on the right side of the scene is a little shoppe where the people who live in this town can purchase the things they need in their daily lives.

In the front of the seen on the right you'll find what I like to think of as a little Italian restaurant with it red and white umbrella. I think the main fare there is spaghetti. It just reminds me of a place where you could order the best plate of spaghetti you've ever experienced.

Just coming under the bridge you'll find the sailboat weaving it's way down the river.

On the left I imagine that's where most of the people of this place reside. It seems to me that there are some cottages and in the back perhaps some town-homes or apartments, there are even a few very small homes throughout the scene and along the river.

While I painted this scene I took a few pictures of the process that I've listed below.

Did You paint with oil?

Yes it's oil on canvas.

It's very colorful but realistic. I love it!

Wow that you so much!

It is a beautiful and enchanting place I would love to call home.

That's my hope, that you get to call it home while you view it, and then take some of it with you! Thank you.

Mission accomplished!

This is amazing! You have a lot of talent and obviously have put a lot of time and practice into your work, well done

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Your imagination is amazing! And your watercolor technique to be envied - how about doing a video of your progress on this.

Thanks you and I've been thinking about doing a progress video on my next piece. I want to do one more Christmas themed painting this month before Christmas :)

well now that you have digitized it, you could add some snow and stuff, no? xD

Actually I probably wouldn't add anything digitally I like to keep them as close to original in digital form as possible, but I am working on another piece right now that has snow and ice that will be finished very soon. :)

Oh so cool! In time for the last seven says of the year also haha... Your work is really amazing, keep it up, and good thinking not adding digital stuff! You use oil paint, right?

Yes I only use oil never add anything digitally :)

Well my personal opinion is, that someone as talented as you look thus far, would be GREAT at using digital tools... I mean, Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchBook, even this online tool named Canva, would be at your feet... But of course, those take time and dedication too (except maybe the last one xD), so if you dedicate yourself fully to oil painting and are settled with it, so be it. :D Happy new year to you! May 2018 be full of blessings and many more of your masterpieces, sir!

wow Id also like and vote for that! maybe another work from u? :D

Thank you, I appreciate that! I have several other paintings that I've posted in the blog, here's one I post list night if you'd like to take a look. https://steemit.com/art/@pennyroll/the-morning-light-oil-on-canvas

On my way, thanks for sharing! :D Blessings

I am a student of architecture and many of my friends are artists so i know how much work and time would have it took for you to create something this good ... I myself am abstract art lover but i like what u have created ...
great job my friend and keep up the good work.

Isn't this painting fantastic. A true artist here in @pennyroll
Abstract.. you may like my art then.. Feel free to check my blog.

Your art is really cool as well! Unlike anything I've seen before!

thank you so much, that means a lot!

I just took a look at your work and you're right I really like it quite a lot. I can relate to what your saying with your work. Awesome!

appreciate the love my friend

Thank you so much, your right this one did take some time. I started it last year and then put it down while I worked on other pieces. Then one day the inspiration for finishing it came. That's why there is a bit of a leap from the last progress picture to the final piece. Thank you so much for your kind words!

well beautiful things do comes with time ....
Keep up the good work brother. @pennyroll

This is another gorgeous painting Todd. Your talent for creating these enchanted forest type scenes continues to amaze and delight me. I also love you describe the back story that goes into each painting, which really adds to your art.

Thank you for showing the process in this one as well. This is a really great post.

Thank you choogirl I was so amazed to see what happend over night I'm a bit stunned!

And by the way I made this post last night right after you suggested I should make another post with progress pics so another big thanks to you!

It is amazing indeed... Leaves one with eyes wide open and mouth dropping --almost!

Here is a crazy idea: if you are into scenes and fantasy, why not create a Night Elf village, a Blood Elf Sanctuary... You know what I mean?

Maybe a sketch of Rivendell or Lothlórien if you like LOTR! :D Happiness and blessings to you, and Steem on!! (Y)

Nice painting, I remember the place I grew up with. I wish I can find time as well doing an image of a laid back village where I used to live.

Its a good thing that there is a section for almost anything here in Steemit that you love to do and share with people.

A beautiful piece of artwork, indeed.

It is a beautiful scenery that touches the mind.

Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this picture.

Thank you! I working on a series of them I hope you can come back and see the rest as they are finished!

Beautiful! I'm not an expert on art, but I recognize beauty when I see it. Thank you for sharing.....

My goodness this is gorgeous. You are wildly talented. You just got my follow. Feel free to check out my digital art, you may be a fan.

Thank you so much I certainly will take a look!

The progressive shots are awesome, it reminds me of a little villiage out of the Witcher 3. keep up the great work man!

Thanks, I've not seen Witcher I'll have to take a look!

I heard The Witcher is based off a book, The Saga of the Witcher or something like that? Yeah @pennyroll, indeed your work is worthy of artwork and conceptual art for games and movies! Also, something I noted:

Each and every one of the stages of your work look like a finished piece of its own! It's amazing, but I bet there are a lot of works like each and every one of those... This...

Looks as professional as this!

Really man, you are amazing, I'll follow you and as I told this lady, try to learn from you and keep up with your techniques... I mean if Da Vinci or Monet were alive they would dig your stuff deeply.

;)

It looks like I missd a few comments a while back but that's one of the most inspiring things I've heard and I really really appreciate it!

Ah, don't worry, I too miss a lot of comments for days. ;)

Very nice to hear this, it flatters me to have inspired you! But you inspired it in the first place, so good job! :D

Keep up that good work, it would not be weird to find your name alongside those of Ted Nasmith, John Howe, or Alan Lee...

Wow! Its great to see fellow artist here on steemit! I am very impressed with this piece as well as I am happy for this posts critical reception! I wish for your continued to success my friend! Followed!

Wow thank you so much, I am really enjoying steemit it's like a breath of fresh air to see that it exists!

Hi, and thank you, it's actually an 11*14 oil on canvas with liquin and linseed oil as the mediums

Wow, so many details! I appreciate that you took a lot of pictures of the process as well:)

Thanks, I even took several more but I had to choose which ones to use that represented the stages the best!

Your selection is great!

I'm a bit lost for the moment cause it's totally new for me .. (o_o)
I hope the weather will be soon better
have a nice day :)

I wish that I would have woken up one day and paint like that,I would never have left my room.I would paint all day long

Sometimes that's what happens to me, I wake up and pick up the brush and before you know it it's 2:00 in the morning :)

I love it.... wow

Thank you!

That really could be the kind of image you see on the Hayao Miyazaki universe. The evolution is interesting as the result is delightful

I haven't heard of Hayao Miyazaki but I will definitely look it up and thank you!

Wow, very beautiful...

Thank you so much!

I absolutely love this! It reminds me a little of some of the work on "The Joy of Painting" with Bob Ross (gotta love classic Bob) in how you show progress step-by step. As an aspiring painter myself, I'd love to see more of your work like this!

This is my plan, actually I've started keeping track of the progress with each painting now. Eventually I will my website LetsStartPainting.com Complete and there will be lots of tutorials, workshops and videos. It should be ready some time in March-April 2018 and I will be posting them here on steemit too but more in depth lessons on the website.

looking Realistic. Very beautiful and impressive drawing. Amazing work @pennyroll.

Wow...what a wonderful piece...did you envision the final product to come out the way it did or did you let the piece guide you?

very colorful painting,but beautiful

Love watching that painting progress and how the layers and details build - and ... that little boat in the stream :)

Thank you I'm glad you enjoy it and noticed the boat. The boat is on a journey through 12 paintings down the enchanted river and I've be posting the rest of them as I finish them. Thanks again!

WOW Such an amazing work! Vote and follow you:)

Thank you for following me and I'm glad you enjoyed the painting :)

Gorgeous... love the atmosphere and the details. The colour palette creates an aura of fantasy. I love how every corner of the canvas has a mood and a story . The reflections are beautiful. And the painting has a serenity , yet, at the same time, there is so much action in the painting. So many stories happening. A great piece of art, @pennyrol :)

Wow that is a really wonderful thing to say, I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

My pleasure , @pennyroll . I too paint. Oils and Acrylics. And I love art that speaks 😊💕

I've just been looking at your paintings and reading the descriptions. First I enjoy your paintings they have an old world impressionist feel to them. Beyond that your writing moves me in a way that I've not experienced before. You're very talented!

I'm doing 12 in the series because I plan to have them printed as a book with the story that goes along with it. And Thanks again I am really glad you enjoy it!

Wow, that sounds really well! Will it be available digitally? I'd love to get a copy. :D

Looks very real. Amazing painting! Loved it.

Thank you!

You are welcome.

Am i crazy? Very close to the bridge there's a little boat,it looks like an ethereum coin...man crypto is making me lose my head haha

That made me laugh! So you mean the boat looks like the coin or something near the boat?

the boat itself looks like the coin, like 2 triangles, thanks to the reflection on the water

beautiful painting. It is good to see the process. Looking at the first steps, you need to have strong believe it will become masterpiece. The progress in each step is mindblowing.

I just kinda fall into it some how it's like, well I'm not sure exactly, you just kind of go to the place that your painting I guess. :)
