In german we have the expression "Selbstbewusst sein" which means "being confident" Er ist sehr selbstbewusst."He is very confident" Funnily Selbst means "self" and bewusst means "aware"
Someone who is selbstbewusst appears confident due to his self-awareness.
Someone who is Bewusst meaning "conscious" has lost all awareness of self.
When you are confident/unconfident you sacrifice being conscious so that you can be self-conscious.
When you are conscious there is nobody there to be confident or even unconfident (Yeah not a real word, uncertain would be the opposite of confident, but who cares).
