STARTING IN THE ART WORLD 🎨: Techniques and recommendations for beginning artists

in #art6 years ago

Hello friends of Steemit! The beginnings in the drawing may seem complicated because things will not always come out the first time, you will damage many pages and mainly make mistakes but if it is something that you are passionate about, you dedicate the right time, practices, research and study you can go forging your way as an artist.

Remember that art is not just drawing or painting, there is also acting, dance, architecture, music, writing, etc. I believe that everything that can be done with our hands and our body is art because it becomes an expression of our mind and our being.

For me is very difficult to demonstrate certain emotions and drawing has become a way to release the demons that sometimes live in my head. So is not only a hobby but a way to drain and express what happens inside you.

WHAT MATERIALS SHOULD I USE?

When you are a beginner is a common mistake to believe that using more expensive materials will get better results. But the reality is that at this stage is when we make more mistakes and probably do not get the expected result, in addition to spend the materials more than they should, is better start with cheap materials and simple to use.

I recommend using a paper sheet letter size (21.6cm x 27.9cm) or folio size (21.6 x 35.6), although it is more fragile than the paper sheets of a drawing block, its price is more accessible. The important thing about this type of material is to understand how the paper should be treated, how the pressure of the pencil influences and to what extent the paper accepts a tone until overloading, losing its quality and being impossible to apply more graphite.

For pencils if you can not use any type, although there is a great variety of tones I use these: one clear (2H), one intermediate (HB) and one darker (4B and 5B). The 2H is very good for sketching because it makes clear strokes and also helps in soft shading. The HB is one of the most versatile pencils because it makes clear or dark strokes as pressed against the paper, it is excellent to highlight your sketch and achieve one of the best gradient, since based on the pressure you make, changes its tonality. The use of 4B or 5B will depend on the type of drawing we are making and if necessary a darker tone. In most cases only the first two are used.

Finally look for a eraser of medium quality and feel a smooth movement against the paper, do not use the one with the pencil as it usually damage the paper easier.

HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR ABILITY?

I am a relatively new in the art and although I liked to draw as a child is was not until January of this year that I I drew again. I did not start with complicated drawings but rather I first practiced executing lines in different directions, circles or any other geometric shape. This technique is recommended by many artists on the internet and is used in order to improve your strokes, making them more accurate and while it may seem simple, what is sought is to improve the pulse, which is essential in the performance of any drawing, for this reason I recommend you perform this technique at least 15 minutes a day.

When making a drawing is always important to make a sketch, perfect each of its parts and when they are satisfied pass it to a new sheet. This is done in order to work in an organized way because if you are starting to draw, is common to make mistakes, use a lot of the eraser and make strokes with a lot of pressure that damage the paper.

To understand how shading works, you must first study the way light affects any object. If you place something in front of the light you will see that the opposite part will be darker. This principle is the one used in the drawing when shading, you can start with a simple form either an oval or a cube and go practicing until you achieve the desired result. Ideally, repeat this many times and perform shadows in which the light comes from different directions, either to the right, to the left, etc.

The practice is what makes you a professional; the path is not simple but when you notice that you are capable of creating your own works, the feeling becomes very satisfying. Making a mistake is the key to learning and although it can be frustrating they should never give up; is important that you believe in what you do and primarily do things with great passion and determination.
