Heute möchte ich Euch ein Bild aus den ersten Jahren meiner Tätigkeit als Glaskünstler vorstellen, es dürfte von 1989 stammen und befindet sich heutzutage in Berlin. Es ist mit Bleistift auf Glas gezeichnet, aber nicht wie ein Hinterglasbild, sondern vorne auf die Scheibe, die abschließend mit einem farblosen Lack überzogen wurde, der die Zeichnung fixieren und schützen soll.
Damals hatte ich kurz zuvor die Diagnosemethode der Betrachtung der Regenbogenhaut kennengelernt und war fasziniert von deren Informationsgehalt, wie auch von ihrer sichtbaren Struktur. Dazu kommt das Sprichwort: "das Auge ist der Spiegel der Seele", so konnte ich fast nicht umhin, dies in einem Bild zu verarbeiten, das Gedanken widerspiegeln sollte, die mich zu der Zeit beschäftigten.
Das Thema sind zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen, die hier in drei Kategorien unterteilt sind - inwiefern so eine Unterteilung gültig ist, sei dahingestellt.
Das Werk ist aus drei kreisförmigen Scheiben aufgebaut, die in verzinntes Blei gefaßt sind, und daß die Kreise so etwas wie Augen darstellen, läßt sich ziemlich schnell erkennen - ein Hinweis, daß es sich um Ansichten handelt.
Im Außenbereich, sozusagen "im Weißen des Auges", fototechnisch gesprochen "negativ" dargestellt, ein Sternenhimmel, mit der Milchstraße quer durch jedes "Auge". Ich habe den nördlichen Sternenhimmel gewählt und als Komplement dazu befindet sich in der Iris die Kontur einer Landschaft, namentlich die Sicht auf den Nordpol, bis zum 70. Breitengrad. Damit sollten zwei einander genau entgegengesetzte Ansichten eingearbeitet werden, die sich ergänzen, egal, ob sie voneinander weg sehen oder aufeinander zu. Das Zurücktreten der Faser in der "Regenbogenhaut" stellt eine Erweiterung des Blickfeldes in der jeweiligen Einstellung dar; die stehen bleibende Kontur zeigt, wie man dadurch mehr erkennt. Parallel dazu ist die Milchstraße immer stärker strukturiert gezeichnet.
In der Mitte jeder Darstellung befindet sich die Pupille, die jeweils ein Symbol enthält.
Zuunterst befindet sich die niedrigste Kategorie, versinnbildlicht mit einer Zange, die stellvertretend für Werkzeug im Allgemeinen steht. Dies soll Menschen symbolisieren, die ihre Mitmenschen nur benutzen, sie als Werkzeug sehen.
Ein wenig darüber positionierte ich die nächsthöhere Kategorie, mit dem Symbol einer Spritze, die als Bestandteil mancher Drogensuchten stellvertretend für Abhängigkeit stehen soll. Diese Art der Beziehungen, beruht auf gegenseitiger Abhängigkeit, die mehr oder weniger extrem ausgebildet sein kann.
Ganz oben befindet sich die höchste Kategorie, dargestellt durch das Symbol "Pax Christi". Es ist das Sinnbild für Friede schlechthin und steht hier für ausgewogene, erfüllte Beziehungen zwischen gleichberechtigten Partnern.
Ein interessantes Detail ist auch in der Signatur zu finden: zu dem Zeitpunkt benutzte ich noch eine andere Signatur als heute, es dürfte zwei Versionen vor der aktuellen gewesen sein (deren eine scheinbar nur für ein einziges Werk beutzt wurde) - aber dazu bei anderer Gelegenheit mehr.

At that time I had just learned about the method of diagnosis by observation of the iris and I was fascinated by its information content as well as its visible structure. In addition, there is the proverb: "the eye is the mirror of the soul", so I could hardly avoid processing this in an image that should reflect thoughts that occupied me at the time.
The topic is interpersonal relations, which here are divided into three categories - to what extent such a subdivision is valid, well, I shall leave that open.
The work is composed of three glass discs, which are set in tinned lead. The fact that the circles represent something like eyes can be recognized quite quickly - an indication that this is about views, viewpoints, opinions.
In the outer part, so to say in "the white of the eye", represented phototechnically speaking in "negative", there is a starry sky with the Milky Way right through each "eye". I have chosen the northern starry sky and as a complement, the iris contains the contour of a landscape, namely the view of the North Pole, down to latitude 70. The aim was to incorporate two opposed views that complement each other, whether they look away from each other or towards each other. The receding of the fiber in the "iris" represents an extension of the field of view in the respective attitude; the remaining contour illustrates the thereby caused growth of one's perception. Parallel to this, the Milky Way is increasingly structured.
In the middle of each drawing you find the pupil, which contains a symbol.
At the bottom you find the lowest category, represented by a pair of pincers that stand for tool in general. This is to symbolize people who only consider their fellow human beings as something to use, see them as tools.
A little above that I positioned the next higher category, with the symbol of a syringe, which, as a component of some drug addiction, is supposed to stand for dependency. This type of relationship is based on interdependence, which can be more or not so extremely developed.
At the top is the highest category, represented by the symbol "Pax Christi". It is the symbol of peace par excellence and stands here for balanced, fulfilled relations between equal partners.
An interesting detail can be found in the signature: at that time I used another signature than today, it was probably two versions before the current one (one of which was apparently only used for one single work) - but I look forward to tell you more about this in another opportunity.
Hoy quiero enseñaros un cuadro de los primeros años de mi actividad como artista del vidrio, creo haberlo hecho en 1989 y se encuentra hoy en día en Berlín. Está dibujado con lápiz sobre vidrio, pero no al estilo de pintura en el anverso del vidrio, sino en la parte delantera del cristal, que finalmente se recubrió con un esmalte incoloro para fijar y proteger el dibujo.
En aquel momento acababa de conocer el método de diagnóstico por observación del iris y estaba fascinado por su contenido de información, así como por su estructura visible. La obra se compone de tres vidrios circulares, que están engastados en plomo estañado; el hecho de que los círculos representen algo parecido a los ojos puede reconocerse rápidamente, con ello quiero indicar que se trata de puntos de vista.
En la parte mas exterior, por así decirlo en "lo blanco del ojo", fototécnicamente hablando representado "en negativo", se encuentra un cielo estrellado, con la Vía Láctea atravesando cada "ojo". He elegido el cielo estrellado del norte y como complemento, el iris contiene el contorno de un paisaje, a saber, la vista del Polo Norte, hasta la latitud 70. El objetivo era incorporar dos puntos de vista opuestos que se complementan, ya sea que los dos se miren o se den la espalda. El retroceso de la fibra en el "iris" representa una ampliación del campo de visión en la respectiva postura, los contornos que aparecen muestran como ello permite mejorar la percepción. Paralelamente, la Vía Láctea está dibujada con mas estructura cada vez.
En el centro de cada disco se encuentra la pupila, que contiene un símbolo.
En el extremo inferior se encuentra la categoría más baja, simbolizada por un par de tenazas que representan las herramientas en general. Esto quiere describir a las personas que no hacen otra cosa que utilizar a sus semejantes, que los ven como herramientas, útiles.
Un poco más arriba de eso posicioné la siguiente categoría más alta, con el símbolo de una jeringa, que como componente de algunas adicciones utilicé para representar dependencia. Este tipo de relación se basa en la interdependencia, que puede estar más o no tan extremadamente desarrollada.
En la parte superior se encuentra la categoría más alta, representada por el símbolo "Pax Cristi". Es el símbolo de la paz por excelencia y representa aquí las relaciones equilibradas y completamente satisfactorias entre partes iguales.
Un detalle interesante se puede encontrar en la firma: en aquel momento usaba una firma distinta que ahora, probablemente era de dos versiones anteriores a la actual (una de las cuales aparentemente sólo usaba para una única obra) - pero de esto quiero hablar mas en otra ocasión.
