Art, large and small

in #art9 years ago

A couple of stories on the BBC site caught my eye

BBC Art

One is about an artist in Australia who makes massive murals. He's done these around the world.

The other is an artist exhibiting tiny, but very realistic, models of buildings at a show in New York.

I never claim to be any sort of expert on art, but appreciate works that show some skill and make you think. There will be some where I'd think 'I could do that', but of course I didn't. I just like to see some craft in art. My favourite picture makers are Dali and Escher, but I can appreciate works from any era.

The large murals and giant statues have come about over the lat 20 years due to a gradual decline of people visiting galleries.
If people wont go inside to see artists work then the artist is forced to take their work outside.
This is why much of this type of art is generally not considered so highly by the art world. It is often seen as novelty. Attention seeking.
"Novelty is the curse of art" - Pablo Picasso
It has to be exceptional to rise above the novelty factor and perhaps these are in that category.

The small art works of street scenes are masterpieces.
Thanks for link.

The art world does have an elitist image. I think we can all enjoy it, but this sort of fun work will draw in a new audience.

Some interesting work by these artists, great share!

Glad you enjoyed it
