My ArtVenture: Acrylic painting : "Highland's game in Kingdom of Fife 15.09.18"

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hello dear Steemians,

Yesterday we have had a n interesting event in Kirkcaldy in Kingdom of Fife, the place where we live. Usually once a year we have Highland’s game on Seafront, once we have ow tide so games took place from 10 AM till 3PM. The weather was typical Scotish, cloudy, but dry with some wind, luckily not too stormy. For local people was absolutely lovely day!

In this post I am going to show you the pictures from Event done by @myskye with digital camera Sony RX10 and my painting that I have done by hte end of the day, full with emotions and impressions from my first LIVE Highland's game event.

Talking about Highland’s games, the oldest Highlands game is held in June in Ceres in Fife, they began under a Charter of Robert the Bruce in the recognition of the villager support at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.

The competition of strength in running, jumping, throwing and riding and of course dancing.

The opening of ceremony started with Piper band, of course dressed in traditional Kilts, that is also something I like, the colorful Kilts and the sounds of pipes and drumps, the combination of those two are so beautiful and distinct.

The rest of activities were on beach:

If in the past it was riding horses, this time we had riding racing cycles, the guys had it not easy on wet sand but they and of course we, people who watched have had a lot of fun.

The other, very cute performance was Highland's dance done by little girls, ages 4-10 years. It is a solo competition for dancers, originated from Galik folk dance, but formalized with the conventions of ballet, and has been subject to influences from outside the Highlands. Of course dance is accompanied by pipe music. The girls were very proud and happy, they received a lot of applauses. Somehow @myskye did not want to picture little girls :(

From the games I find the most interesting throwing heavy metal ball about 2,5 kg up to 6 kg as far as possible, later should be thrown above the plank which also slowly going up in height reaching 6 meters.

This athlet is originally from Kyrgistan, but if you do not know that you can't really guess, he looks like real Scots and Loves Highland's games

Caber Toss

The highlight for me and possibly for everyone was Caber Toss, that is a trunk of a tall tree about 6 m and about 50-80 kg. The thrower takes the wide end upright with the hands put together, takes a short run with the caber and then stops and pulls the caber so that the large end hits the ground and the small end flips over and faces away from the thrower.

In this competition was only one winner from 6 athletes.

Because we were just in front of athletic game on seafront and probably I was one of the cheerful one we received a certificate of attendance, I am so happy for that and wanted to share it with you.

Hi @stef1 . :) Came here in a very very long time. The art illustration of caber toss is superb. My son is a big fan of highland games . And caber toss is his favourite. Follows it online and dreams of doing something like that some time :)

I like that you decided to show us a person with unusual pose doing some strange sports activity, because I get to appreciate both the beautiful art and getting to know a sports I've rarely seen.

Thank you @scrawly, it is not easy to paint someone who is lifting such a heavy stuff and being probably so stressed himself under that pressure. I do not think anyone will look happy in this situation, but that is hte best I could do. I am glad I was able to bring this beautiful tradition a bit closer to you and thank you for wonderful comment :)

It's my pleasure. I like brave people, as I told you on discord and artists who draw unusual topic or pose are considered brave in my book :).

It inherits the culture of such interesting people :D Thank you for putting the photos and the text together, also. It gives a beautiful context for your lovely painting !

Thank you @veryspider for your wonderful comment, I was full of emotions and excitement like a part of HIghland game team and wanted to share that feeling with everyone. I know many people know about such event but it is something different to be among those people and feel that atmosphere. Thanks for visiting this post, really happy for that :)
