I continued the experiment with another drawing. This time, I used a spiral shape to give the illusion of curly hair. I added some shading to the eyes, the side of the nose, underneath the chin, and inside of the shirt to make some of the lines more clear. I'm still struggling a little with proportion (I feel the eyes are just a tad too big, and the nose is slightly too wide, and I'm not measuring or drawing a grid first, just free-handing everything, so nothing is perfectly symmetrical). I am happy with this first attempt, but I know I can do better. That's what practice is - a learning process that (hopefully) brings about improvements.
