I continued sketching, testing 2 different hair styles and textures, and added a bit of shading to smooth out the appearances of the drawings. This one has a ponytail full of braids, perhaps
and this one..I've drawn this face and hairstyle a couple of times, each time with minor differences as I attempt to improve.
I can see a major difference in how I hold the pencil, how hard I press it against the paper, and the benefits of a bit of shading. I'll be continuing down this path.
