Texture and Expression

in #art8 years ago

As I posted recently, I've been doing a couple of different experiments simultaneously with my sketching. I've begun toying with body language, facial expression, and hair texture. These are important thing that tell stories about the person/character. Including little tidbits such as a piece of jewelry or writing on a shirt, can add to the background.

Here we have someone who appears to be deep in thought. She's wearing an apron, and the words "kiss" and "cook" are visible. Her face is lined, and her hair is either wavy or braided in very small braids. On the other hand, here

we have someone with short, straightened hair, eyes serious, lips pressed together in a near-frown.

In addition, I have drawn this person

whose eyes are wary, and the deep shadows around those eyes can evoke a sense of tiredness or defeat.

What book titles or tools would you suggest to help me continue to improve my art skills?
