Drawing on memories

in #art8 years ago

I got a package in the mail a day or two ago from my brother in Australia, @galenkp. In it was a couple of ziplock bags with some old baby and family photos, a large envelope with some of my report cards, drawings and cards I had made for my mother, a smaller envelope with clippings from my first hair cut and, a sketchbook.

It was quite a pack and I should probably thank him for it. Thanks bro. I have so little of my early life here in Finland, so it means something to have something to show my new family. It is funny seeing photos of myself as a baby and how similar my daughter looks. I plan on sharing some of the photos and my memories in time after I have had a chance to go through and scan them and collect my thoughts.

Here though are some sketches out of the book (pictures taken with phone sorry). All are done with a clutch pencil (I am lazy to sharpen) in 1999 except for the last which was 2001 which looks like it is done with a fineliner. I haven't drawn much for many years but it is funny looking back at them as I think I remember drawing them. I can at least picture where I was likely sitting when they were drawn. The last, is a self-portrait.

Lots of women? Yes. Women are beautiful. For me, the feminine energy signifies movement and change and as it flows it is both a creative force that becomes the new and destructive force that ends the old. It is life over time.

When I drew these, I was very ill and didn't leave the house much unless for either work or university. Drawing was a lot of my escape from the pain and while I sat there sketching, I was free, the tip of the pencil the way out. You will notice that none of them are really finished and think that has always been the way with me, nothing is done, there is no end until the end comes.

Anyway, no one has ever seen these before except @galenkp who found the sketchbook in his shed where some of the family's belongs are stored. Well, now they are on the blockchain. It is funny, I have very little issue talking about all manner of things through my writing but, this feels personal.

Impressive stuff, @Tarazkp — you’re a man of surprises & many talents. I like what you say about female energy & relate, as a writer, to this definition of art therapy:

sketching, I was free, the tip of the pencil the way out.

Thanks, for sharing your vision of Beauty 🙏🏼

I think everyone is looking for that door to walk through to freedom. I hope everyone finds it at least once in their life.

I’m greedy for liberation & ecstasy (out of body freedom) & seek it on a daily basis. Little hits, here and there, in art, virtue, meditation, bliss, etc... ✨

I was thinking this was going to be some of your dad's drawings from the thumbnail. I knew your bro was going to try and send you some stuff. I was shocked as I read to find that it was your creative work!

WOW! @Tarazkp you have been holding out on us all this time! hahaha Do you sing and dance as well? I would like to see some FRESH art from you bro. That self-portrait looked matrix style RSI. I am sure it could be an interesting outlet for when words are not enough.

I do enjoy drawing but don't now because of time. I am thinking of attempting some charcoal work in the summer. Singing is only for my daughter (poor her) but yes, I do dance :D

I wouldn't be surprised if you play an instrument too!

hahaha I bet she is your your biggest fan! Bless her heart. hahaha
I look forward to seeing those charcoals SOON!

I read a post from @Galenkp that he had mailed you some family pictures.
Now you write that he also sends you your own sketchbook. You are a gifted artist. Your drawings are very good. I can understand that you feel a bit 'naked' by posting them, but I think the community will receive them with great enthusiasm.

Yes, it was a nice present to see after all of these years. I am looking forward to them visiting in the summer too :)

It is interesting to share these kinds of things with the community because it gives a look at me that not many have seen.

That is the case indeed. But I, and I think there are many, find it very nice to get to know more of the people of whom we read posts at a regular base or with whom we exchange ideas.

To bad schools no longer teach the Arts in school . There are some classes that are important . The Arts opens up one's mind to new challenges and questions . You are well rounded in the Arts . Writing , photograph and drawing . And most likely a couple more . I can see why you have such an open and inquisitive mind .
well done

They can't grade it so, it has no value....

My dad was an art teacher from 16 to 82 (now) and I think that even after his stroke a couple years ago, he teaches a class at a church once a week.

The greatest loss the world is going to suffer is that of creativity. The more we consume the same, the more we produce the same until what we all produce is identical. At that point, life ends.

nice that he still teaches .
A.I. will take care of creativity for us ...at least we have that to look forward to . Just like the monk told me , " when you die you will receive total enlightenment " . So I have that to look forward to that also . Man my future has a big reward or is it my end .

Great drawing skill. I love the last one the best. The way it sort of blurs as if hidden in the shadows but they are all beautiful. You got lots of talent @tarazkp.
This was good to see. I can't want to see the rest of it all.

I don't think I will 'release' too many but thanks :)

A man of many talents. Obviously you got your dads genes. Saw some of his work and they were very good as well. Should try doing one of your daughter.

My dad was very good across many medias. Yeah, I would like to but, don't all babies look the same? ;)

Omgsh these are beautiful!

thanks :)

Great memories.

Yes, it is funny to think back 20 years. Terrible also considering I was at university then... getting old ;)

Memories are beautiful, seeing your old self lol, you remember some stuffs you did while you were very young and you will laugh so hard....
.sometimes when i get bored , i check my diary and i laugh it out......

Sometimes I think, 'Did I really do that' :D So many good times and stupid actions.

Lol, thats why life is fun, those stupid actions are the real life we have enjoyed, sometimes it sucks to be too serious all the time

Wow, you are good at drawing too. They're all good and the more realistic ones are great, but I actually like the one in the bottom-right corner the best. It feels more expressive... I can appreciate realistic drawings but it's a different type of appreciation. There's something really special about the lower-right though, in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing these.

Thanks. One day, I hope to have a house where I can have a little office or studio to just play in. Paint or draw, wood carve or something. My daughter loves drawing, painting and craft and she is under two still and I wish I would have a chance to support her to develop.

That's a wonderful dream to have for yourself and your daughter. I hope that you are able to achieve it. You've got plenty of time if she's still under 2 years old... she should be happy with some finger painting for now :)

Its really nice taking journey down memory lane, i have always wanted to learn how to draw, i hope its not too late

just have to pick up a pencil and a scrap of paper and start.

I really love this drawing. Very nice.
I also draw, but I have not done any piece in a long time now. When I check through my drawing books in high school I just laugh out loud. Some look amateur but also some look like a professionally made.

I don't draw often now. I am enjoying the writing though.

Why do i have a feeling you had a lot xxx magazines when you were much younger 😁😆jokiiiiiing...

Lots of women? Yes. Women are beautiful. For me, the feminine energy signifies movement and change and as it flows it is both a creative force that becomes the new and destructive force that ends the old. It is life over time.

This deserves to be framed on a wall, well, it is on the wall of blockchain anyway :)

Really nice art, hope you will get back to drawing asap.

it seems the lady in image 2 is wearing a Nike snickers? Touché

Looking forward to seeing your baby picture :)

ha, no. Never really had the need although, a girlfriend occasionally would by one for me to draw from. I don't have those in this sketchbook though, perhaps lost to the winds.

Dear friend, you do not appear to be following @artzone. Follow @artzone to get a valuable upvote on your quality post!

If you haven't already, you should totally start drawing again.

These are very good. I hope you kept up with the sketching. I'd like to see some of your most recent work. Hopefully you will follow up with them.

Beautifully expressed. I find many of my own emotions in these words. You should rekindle your talents. I look forward to seeing new work
