Was working the #steemitabuse channel and noticed a report of a plagiarist. Of all the abuse happening on Steemit, plagiarism is the thing I hate most. I decided to get in touch with the original author and confirm the user was, in fact, plagiarising their work.

I verified the original artist by having them contact me on DeviantArt from the original account and send me a photo with my username and the date on some of the artwork that was stolen.
After I confirmed he was plagiarising the artwork of another person, I plan to get all his rewards burned to zero. I contacted a few of the larger voters asking if they can remove their vote and will adjust his pending rewards to $0. In the meantime, I have asked the original artist to join Steem and I created an account for him as the sign-up process is time-consuming and he does not have a sim card in his mobile phone.
Before I get too far, let me share some details.
The plagiarist is posting as the user @florian.art and using artwork from DeviantArt and other places. Most of the artwork is from the user nosoart on DeviantArt. There is some art from other users as well, but a bulk is stolen from one artist.
Although the user isn't a big earner, he has some decent votes from some well-known people and a lot of engagement. I spoke with one of them and they were really surprised and disappointed to find the work was plagiarized as they liked curating it.
Fortunately, the original artist is now on Steemit as @nosoart. I asked that he creates an #introduceyourself post but he already made two posts tagged #introduceyourself as the primary tag and is unable to change that. I am going to help walk him through the ropes of how things work on Steemit and will likely be a slow process of learning Steem(it) takes time and is not always straightforward. I am excited to see a real artist here on Steemit producing genuine art and not just stealing shit from Google.
I have seen previous posts by the plagiarist were upvoted by some big names here on Steemit and believe his artwork was enjoyed by many judging by the comments received. I would love to see the real owner of the artwork see the same love and attention rather than some low life profiting off someone else's work.

Give him a warm welcome and help him get adjusted to our community. Steem(it) needs more authentic content creators and fewer zero effort plagiarist and spammers. I am disappointed to find yet another plagiarist but I am very happy to see a real artist join the community.

Besides the moral argument of plagerism, the risk of getting caught wich is extremely high makes it a complete waste of time. If people would just spend the time to make there own content, they would soon realize that its just easier to do it the right way.
Great post, after learning more about this I can see now how this can hurt steemit. Good for you! I do see how content and having a story behind the pictures is much better. And thank you for helping me a couple days ago. I truely was confused :) and will have a much better account now.

Great work @themarkymark. I agree with everything going on plagiarism and identity theft is still the number one issue we face as a community. It's pretty fucking awesome that you were able to get them an account set up so quickly and get them here and posting. Just another point proving you are one of our better witnesses. I shouldn’t be, but I’m always by horrified by plagiarism on this platform. I’m glad you exposed this person and went to effort of finding this original artist. Great post as others have said, this was a good read to know others are paying attention.

I know how it is... Dude stole almost 100 of my videos on YouTu... SafeSpaceTube impersonating me. Over 13k people subscribed to his channel because they thought it was my account...
Some of those videos have over 100k views. I reported the channel many times and it still exists... Wit my content. If only there were some info like:
"Hey I'm not the original author. the real guy is at www(...)"
He even stole my avatar and banner which took me few hours to make in PS....

I have a small mission on plagiarists going. When it's appropriate I contact the original author to let them know. I've heard a few of the excuses... Just yesterday one claimed he wasn't a plagiarist because he sourced the copied article. Made it easy to verify.

This is weird; I have been following him a while and he had a high reputation. I was doing google image searches and they led back to steemit because I was considering curating them.
Reputation on Steemit is meaningless, I mean look at the #1 rep on Steemit right now...

It is lovely how the highest rep account on our Steem platform really has only one true follower. But a whole lot of people think his spam is trash. One of the major glitches in our system.
I also did a google search on a article about a week and a half ago. It kept coming back to Steemit too and I know darn well I read paragraphs of that article somewhere else. There were just things in the article that no one could forget, it was originally out of a British Satire article. What I think some have gone to doing is taking different paragraphs from different articles and pasting them into a post to make a whole new article. Rather creative on their part I might add but I have a motto as a blogger: If I said I read I read it. Few on my regular blog will argue with that statement because they've put through the test and they know I will go find it and prove it to them.
Art like this isnt easy to create. It also takes many years of practice. It would be terrible to have my art claimed to be owned by another. Great catch themarkymark.

I have (sort of) the same problem with a user who has been posting (reworded) paragraphs from a travel site + photos of that site.
He is using bots, taking votes up to 4$ per post and even though I have let the steemcleaners know, nothing has happened .. What would you suggest?
