About 5 months later, I finally finished this beauty.
It took me about 5 or 6 months to finish this illustration. From the beginning I was very undecided on the style I wanted to do it in and how I wanted it to look in the end.
The best thing for my mental well-being was to let it flow, and it did. With a mix of techniques and references, but without a doubt, it is a tribute to my own style.
Cryptopop is the name I gave to this piece, it is a union between cryptocurrency and lollipop.
It's an illustration made entirely in vectors using Adobe Illustrator, that's right, 100% vector scalable to infinity.

Me tomó como 5 o 6 meses en terminar esta ilustración. Desde el principio estuve muy indeciso en el estilo en que quería hacerla y como quería que quedara al final.
Lo mejor para mi bienestar mental fué dejar que fluyera, y fluyó. Con una mezcla de técnicas y referentes pero sin duda rindiendo cuentas a mi propio estilo.
Cryptopop es el nombre que le di a esta pieza, es una union entre cryptocurrency (en español, criptomoneda) y lollipop (en español, chupeta, chupete, paleta, entre otros nombres dependiendo del país).
Es una ilustración hecha completamente en vectores usando Adobe Illustrator, así es, 100% vectores escalables hasta el infinito.

The first step to vectorization, is to vectorize.

We start by adjusting node by node drawing lines on the sketch, in which it may seem that everything is fine but we always have to be adjusting curves or proportions that in digital may not look so optimal.

Iniciamos ajustando nodo a nodo trazando líneas sobre el boceto, en el que puede parecer que todo esta muy bien pero siempre hay que estar ajustando curvas o proporciones que en digital puede que no se vean tan óptimas.
We continue adding some more features and details on the face, while we show you these eyelashes because they turned out beautifully.
Continuamos agregando características y detalles en el rostro, mientras te mostramos estas pestañas porque quedaron hermosas.
Sometimes we have to figure out ways to use the tools creatively and to our advantage, so that the result is just as expected and time optimized.
Algunas veces nos toca ingeniarnos maneras en como usar las herramientas de manera creativa y a nuestro favor, para que así el resultado sea justo como se espera y optimiando el tiempo.
A little more detail here and there because details are everything, especially elements like the eyelashes, the iris effect, or the seams of the fabric, are little things that we overlook from our day-to-day real life but when it comes to an illustration they are really outstanding.
Un poco más de detalles por aquí y por allá porque los detalles son todo, sobretodo elementos como las pestañas, el efecto del iris, o las costuras de la tela, son pequeñas cosas que pasamos por alto de nuestro día-a-día real pero cuando se trata de una ilustración son realmente sobresalientes.
Hey but not too much! Sometimes we have to restrain ourselves because if we don't control ourselves the details would take a couple of lifetimes to be done.
Below is the final result of the illustration with just the black lines:
¡Hey pero no demasiado! A veces tenemos que frenarnos nosotros mismos, porque si no nos controlamos los detalles tomarían un par de vidas en hacerse.
Acá abajo el resultado final de la ilustración solo con las líneas negras:
Now comes the magic of color, which of course we start in a general way and with flat colors as macro-areas such as hair, fabric, face... Then smaller and more specific areas like the frame of the glasses, the mouth, and the accessories.
Ahora viene la magia del color, que por supuesto empezamos de manera general y con colores planos a manera de macro areas como el cabello, tela, rostro... Luego areas más pequeñas y especificas como la montura de las gafas, la boca, y los accesorios.
To give volume and texture to the illustration, little by little and zone by zone we add lights, shadows, and reflections that emulate a scene with lighting and its effects a little more real.
Para darle volumen y textura a la ilustración poco a poco y zona por zona agregamos luces, sombras y reflejos que emulan una escena con iluminación y sus efectes un poco más real.
To finish, we add specific textures, once again... Zone by zone, editing manually each of the textures adapting them to the different areas that we apply them.
Para finalizar, agregamos texturas especificas, una vez más... Zona por zona, editando de manera manual cada una de las texturas adaptandolas a las diferentes areas que que las aplicamos.
This is to generate even more volume and texture, helping the illustration not to look completely flat in terms of colors, lights and shadows.
Esto para generar aun más volumen y textura, ayudando a que la ilustración no se vea completamente plana en cuanto a los colores, luces y sombras..
We remind you that this illustration is made 100% in vectors using Adobe Illustrator, so in these close-ups, you can see very defined details, including the small textures of illuminations and shadows that we commented on above.

This is awesome. So much better than a lot of the NFTs that are being sold lately.
Thank you do much Wes!!! I've been complaining about that so much haha. I know "art" is subjective but there are so many things out there that are totally effortless being sold for ridiculous numbers that is kind of frustrating.
I am sure a lot of the NFTs being sold for crazy amounts are people buying their own stuff to inflate the numbers a bit.
