A discussion about Facebook censorship by @beinart had me dig up a blog I wrote a few years ago:

Unbelievable: The image on top was a old painting of mine that had attracted the attention of censors in the past.
NOTE: while not lost, it was however badly damaged before I could finish it. Subsequently I gave it to some artist friends of mine in Canada to "cut up for parts" and use for a collage in a community project.

I almost forgot about David - so I checked in my stack, and found a few more - guess I was fascinated by David decades ago:
a india ink drawing from 1975 - it had also been posted on DeviantArt, with the following text - links on that text don't work anymore, and I have no idea what "SU blog" means - I was on many different sites in those days:
Hurry, go to Florence to see Michelangelo's work before the censors get there! Here was my reaction to the news on my SU Blog: Unbelievable.... No, it is believable: has anyone read the fine-print on most internet art and photo sites? Censorship is creeping up on us everywhere! If this persists, the Vatican will be rated a off-limit porn site, and women and children not allowed to enter the city of Florence, lest they might encounter Michelangelo's statue of David! So how do I rate this for SU? Is there a radio-button for ridiculous?

Glad we do not have a culture of flagging things like this on Steemit; although I sometimes tag my work "nsfw" here and it hides my work.
I might tag it that way if I feel it may be offensive to many - but I don't give a flying f@c{ about those "Morality Apostels" that flag anything that has nipples.
I mean: those type of people would have Mother Mary feed Baby Jesus in the toilet, and to them I suggest: "eat your lunch in the toilet"

Indeed this censorship all around is rediculous but also scary. Just commented on @beinart's post about that. I think "they" just want people to be disconnected with what's natural and push them towards aseptized manufactured consumer goods.

i really enjoyed that article about idealised penis size in Ancient Greece. Fascinating!
I ran across this not long ago - having used Greek, and Greek-inspired art often, I said to myself: duh, why did I not notice this myself? Way back in art history class we discussed that David was a powerful growing youth, and his penis disproportionately small, but nobody ever came up with this explanation!
