Fine art has become a commodity. The fine art market is driven by some of the same forces that are driving bitcoin. That is protection from the fiat money system. I always recommend that artists learn a little bit about what conservators go threw to restore works of art. The artist should use the best available materials in terms of permanence. So for the painter learn which pigments are fugitive and which are permanent. The support such as paper, canvas, linen or wood learn which ones have stood the test of time. Your art work should be prepared so that many future generations can enjoy it.

That's interesting and educating, especially to someone with little knowledge on paint restoration.
Ive done quite a bit of painting restoration. Its amazing what can be done to bring a badly damaged painting back to life. Doing the restoration work changed my decision making proses for the paintings that I make.

Question though. Must one be a painter before becoming a paint restorer?
No but it defiantly helps.
