In order to experiment and try new techniques, once a week I take a break from my illustration work and do whatever takes my fancy - in this case a still life.
I've set the flowers in front of a cave-like background, recalling the origins of European art in the cave paintings of Lascaux as well as the street graffiti of urban art.
Here where I live there are naturalized peonies, daylilies and lilacs, as well as a good variety of wildflowers: Indian paintbrush, columbines, etc. But it's only the end of April, so there's only a few blades of grass and a lot of mud: tough subjects for art.
