Another day, another doodle. This is a quick drawing done for today's Artstorm contest. Today's theme is insects, and the aim is to do a doodle in under 15mins. My design's based on one of those fighting beetles. Beetles are great to draw, they have loads of interesting shapes to work with and amazing tints and hues if you work in colour. But because this is a contest of speed, I didn't really have time to explore all of that. Next doodle maybe! :)

Bugs are so cool - and with that I mean their shape, proportions, how their anatomy works... - however, they can also be annoying little critters though :)

Haha you're quite right! to add some precision it's of the Edgy Popule sub-sub-genus. They seem like social insects but Hobbes actually defines their life as "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short" (and are definitely among the annoying insect category). And they ruined the standards for evidence and logic in the insect community, you can't trust anything you read there anymore...

Thanks Dee! As I was using a picture of real beetle it was pretty easy to get the main lines, then it was just a matter of filling it in. That's why i threw in a few random symbols, really didn't what else to do in 15 mins haha
