Atomic Bombings

In the recent light of oppenheimer that I haven't watch yet I begun wondering now about the atomic bombs.
How do they impact the world peace today?
In terms on international alliances I'm a pacifist and I kinda spit on the idea of war because it always harvests so many innocent lives, so let me just state that in my opinion nuclear strike on japan was absolutely unfjustified, even though it absolutely doesn't excuse japan from their imperialistic actions to the west and pacific.
My point being, after the bombs dropped on nagasaki and hiroshima, do you think the power of atom is the guardian of world peace or just the opposite? Nicola Tesla allegedly said that the moment nations point at each other the weapons of mass destruction, we will achieve tranquility because no one's gonna have the balls to fire first.
And I gotta lowkey agree with this one? classical wars happen in many places today, one of them being fought between the largest atomic stockpile in the world and Ukraine which doesn't quite have nukes on its own, but there is still huge NATO backup with the combined power of atomic bombs that could wipe us out a thousand times over
aaaand yet I completely don't see they're gonna ever be used in action, Putin liked to threaten with his beloved nukes which we've heard already but that's pretty much it
so it appears that Tesla might have been onto something
however, humans are incredibly stupid and it would be foolish to say we're safe because it really doesn't take much for a looney dictator to strike a tiny apocalypse at will
