It’s 1:34 AM now and sleep refuses to come to me no matter how I lie down. While trying to make myself sleep, I scroll through reels and videos letting sounds fill the dark. Somewhere between the glow of the screen and the talking cat, words begin to form and I decide to turn this restless moment into a poem.
Talking cat in my phone as I lie on my bed,
I laugh hard, my face is red.
My eyes feel tired, my mind won’t slow,
Thoughts drift fast like ebb and flow.
The room is dark, the phone shines blue,
One more reel or maybe two.
Soft voices hum then fade away,
Sleep visit me, I need you now today.
I close my eyes, I count some sheep,
Trying my best to fall asleep.
But silence speaks a little loud,
My mind's full of voices, it's a crowd.
Outside, the night is calm and deep,
As if it knows I cannot sleep.
Cars still running, revving engine.
I don't know where to begin.
I wonder when my mind will rest,
When heavy thoughts won't leave my chest.
For now I write with simple rhyme,
Turning restlessness, I bide my time.
If sleep won’t come, I won’t resist,
I’ll let these moments gently exist.
Till morning finds my weary eyes,
I’ll write my way through sleepless nights.
Nice poem. Try banana before bed, it's high in magnesium.
I would do next time. I had high adrenaline last night. I slept like 5am haha
